One of my main aims for my GE system (AC3kw inverter plus 2 x 8.6 Kwh batteries plus 5Kwp solar PV) was to be able to cover some essential circuits during a powercut (internet, TV, CH pump etc). But now the option to set a reserve level higher than the nominal 4% has disappeared from my Samsung App. Does anyone know why?

Guessing your setup has been wired up to enable that to happen? It should have a separate feed from the inverter to those circuits consumer unit due to the way the inverter is designed.

With all the changes on the new web portal side if you are using a third party app (I'm assuming this as you said Samsung app) it probably isn't keeping up with the rapid changes.

Happy for someone to prove me wrong though!

wrefordj the mobile side of things is out of date, they are working on something new. For now you will need to set it here on the inverter card on the dashboard

This is similar to an existing topic stream "Can't change battery reserve" which still appears to be unresolved. I am unable to set a reserve through the new web portal even though the facility is offered. I have been told that it is being worked on.

wrefordj It's under Cloud Portal - near the bottom of second page. I'll be interested to hear if the setting works for you.

wrefordj Well I was able to set a new reserve but it was ignored today and the old level was used. It seems like the option has been frozen.

yandards Yes it is wired to be completely isolated from the mains during a power cut.
It is a GE App on my Samsung phone.

wrefordj Drop support an email, but there are issues with the reserve setting at the moment since they disabled it in the app for an "improvement". For me personally it looks like a reporting issue, my battery says 8% remaining when it is really 4%.

@wrefordj it's currently only available in the new portal at https://beta.givenergy.cloud in my inverters > inverter information > settings.

This is due to the app and old portal using a different setting on the inverters themselves which we had noticed was causing a few problems.

Until we redevelop the app with the new end points within the beta portal it will remain turned off for now there, and only accessible via the new portal which is planned for live launch shortly.

Adam-Reynolds I've been referred several times to the new portal to use this setting but unfortunately the setting doesn't actually work for me - and it appears others have the same experience. The portal reports that the settings have been changed but the battery continues to discharge past the value set. I had a long MS Teams conversation with Simon before he left the business but now I'm not sure who is dealing. There seems to be misunderstanding of the problem at GivEnergy - I know the GE App has been disabled for the function but it doesn't work on the new portal either. Unless of course, it's my system that's at fault . .

AJD I am not aware of it not working, I am happy to check for you if you can send me over an email referencing this community forum with your serial number, I'll set it for you my end on the new portal and check the local inverter settings to see if its taken.

I have done some extensive testing on this today.

I first tested this on some AC coupled inverters, and found that the new portal settings were being ignored for the power reserve, and was in fact discharging past what was set.

I then tested on some hybrid inverter systems and had no issues, the battery was stopping and starting as expected when I was setting this value.

It looks like this is related to only AC coupled inverters. The information has been passed across to the relevant teams.

Please note, for the time being AC coupled users that are expecting a power cut and wish to reserve power, the best work around currently is to set an AC charge for 0001-2359 with a percentage you wish to keep reserved, the battery will be force charging and cannot discharge in this state, when a power cut does occur you will then need to turn the AC charge off to make use of that stored power.

Adam-Reynolds I subsequently asked Adam when I might expect my reserve to be set back to 30% since it is now reduced to 5% and the reply was "Unfortunately it is likely going to require firmware logic and investigation with the R&D centre, in which is going to take some time ".
But in the meantime, I have another question for everyone to consider:
If a battery reserve is set, say at 30% and a power cut occurs and the relevant circuits are manually switched onto the battery rather than on the grid, will the logic then allow the battery to discharge further, or will the reserve limit have to be reduced in some way, presumably via a laptop and an ethernet cable?

wrefordj I've been using for sometime the work around set out above pending the fix to the reserve power function - that is, put the timed charge on 24 hours with the percentage wanted in reserve (in my case at this time of year 55%). I have a separate distribution board for my 'essential' circuits connected to the EPS output. My understanding from my installer was that, in the event of a power cut, the EPS circuits would continue to operate automatically.

I was a bit confused by the post above about turning the AC charge off to make use of stored power because I wouldn't have power to use the web portal. Anyway, I put this to the test yesterday and switched off grid power to see what happened. It all worked perfectly and automatically. I powered all my essential circuits for a few hours and the battery discharged past the 'reserve' level with no problem. I hope this helps.

AJD Thanks, that's useful to know. In my case, I did not get batteries to make money, but rather to support the grid to distribute renewable energy.
But I do use Octopus GO for the cheap rate to charge the batteries, and top up with fairly inefficient solar panels due to trees etc. So the workaround charge would mean that I did not make full use of the cheap rate. In any case, I have no way of predicting a power cut. I just don't want to be sat here with two big batteries empty if we do get one...

Battery cutoff % limit seems to disconnect the battery at my set %, and it ignores the setting in Battery Reserve % Limit

Hi all, I've had some new test firmware brought out to resolve this issue today, would any of you be interested in testing this? To clarify, this is a fix for the AC coupled models for the battery power reserve ignoring the setting, this will also allow in the event of the power cut occurring the use of the remaining capacity within the battery. Adam-Reynolds Will this work in the scenario where displayed SOC is significantly higher than actual SOC? If not the test results could prove difficult to interpret. I have had both reserve and cut-off limits ignored when the system thought the SOC was higher than it actually was. Conversely my reserve limit functions correctly when displayed SOC is not too far removed from actual SOC.

Adam-Reynolds Well in the last few days, my battery reserve mysteriously set itself to 30% rather than 4% and I have today adjusted it to 20% which seems to be working, via the new beta portal My Inverter/Settings page.
So well done, GivEnergy! I'm a happy bunny, now!

I have set the reserve to 10%, the cutoff is 5%. Yet the battery discharges to 8% (Neither setting). AC Coupled
If remote firmware needs a SOC recalibrate, will have to wait till battery dead. Dont want to be throwing away Kwhs

Will this also include the UPS feature?

Is this still being worked on? I've tried setting the reserve limit to 30% through the app and the portal but the battery continues to discharge to 4% each day

AC Coupled, you need firmware A.0.535-D0.535 which has the reserve fixed. I have mine at the moment 10% and it doesn't go below that.

As far as I know, this version was never released. So may get incorporated in a future one
