Dual inverter confusion

Hi,

I currently have a PV system with 1x 3kw AC inverter and 2x 5kw Givenergy batteries behind it.

System is working well but I want to expand it. I was hoping to install a second 3kw AC inverter and a 9kw battery behind it. The aim being to double my charge and discharge rate as well as getting more battery capacity.

I emailed support to ask about this option but got a reply saying “We dont suggest dual inverter setup yet, but will have support for it later in the year.”

However after reading some of this forum to understand more about when it would work, I’ve found several mentions of this document which seems to suggest multiple AC inverters should work. Has the reply from Givenergy been about hybrid maybe when I was asking about AC? Can anyone shed any light on this?

Many thanks,

James1 I think the issue is that the a multiple Hybrid inverters were not designed to operate as a single plant, connected to each other over a data connection. This is my setup and it's working very nicely. However, the AC3s do seem to have been developed to operate with single plant capability with one inverter being the Master device and any others being slave on the same Modbus network.

On another post @hoggy mentioned he was customer no.1500ish less than two years ago. Her also mentioned a growing customer base of around 10,000 now (I think). Only Givenergy knows how many of their customers have multiple inverter installations but they seem to be getting a hard time from those who are justifiably mightily cheesed off that their plant is not behaving as they expected. Of course, we rarely hear from people whose inverters are behaving perfectly. There are also customers who will have no idea what their inverters are doing and so aren't bothered either way; it's just the geeks who stare at the portal all day.

I think that technically, multiple AC3s can be installed now but Givenergy don't want to make recommendations to more customers who might end up miffed that their plant is not working as they might expect. Despite what's been said about timescales, from where I'm sitting, they're obviously working hard on making changes but there's no visibility of what those things are and a better Energy Management System has been mooted since I first spoke to them last November.

Should anyone have had theirs installed in the last couple of weeks an easy way to find out your customer number and to work out how many system are installed (it used to be on the old portal) is while logged in on the portal hold "Control + Shift + i" and switch to the network tab.
Refresh the page and the portal will poll for new data and you'll see it call a URL with your customer number in along the lines of .../inverter/12345/... that's your customer number.

Once smartplugs come out this too will no longer work as I guess anyone can register so won't hold true.
