Multiple AC Couple inverters on one system, or a larger AC Couple?

We have 3 separate systems on our farm. The 18kw array was installed 10 years ago nearly and is split as an 8, a 6 and a 4. They are all on a barn and their inverters are tucked up under them.

Due to the distances involved and the nature of our property, when we have Givenergy systems installed we had to have 3kw AC couple inverters rather than Hybrids installed. This is fine for the 4 and 6kw arrays as at peak sunshine there isn't too much left over pissing back into the grid.

On our 8kw system however the waste (from our perspective) solar that goes back into the grid in the good times is substantial, as only 3kw can ever be stored into the dual 8kw batteries.

So, does anyone know if you can put two AC Couple inverters on the same system (probably just on one battery each) or if they have any plans to release an AC couple with some grunt more in line with the 5kw hybrids?

dbt85 I think they are looking at upgrading the 3kw inverter to 3.6kw and making a 5 kw Ac coupled inverter. Not sure of any production dates tho, possibly early next year. best to give them a ring 👍

Ahh interesting. A 5kw inverter might do the trick but tbh even just another 3 (or 3.6) would be good. Seems such a shame to see it disappearing into the grid. The first month of having the systems I was in despair at how much had been going to the grid for the last 8 years!

Kevsla Upgrading the 3kw? Do you mean via software? Or new hardware? Because the current software on the AC3 will allow 3.6kw for 10 seconds

THALL These were for new units. It would be great to be able modify the existing Ac3. I will ask the question 👍

Morning Guys, Spoke to Givenergy, unfortunately these are all new units.

Well unless they offer some kind of upgrade/replacement program thats me out : ☹️

Would be interesting to see if they will offer or if installers will offer a swap programme to get a 3kw out and a 5kw in. We shall see.

Saying that my installers have never heard of the givenergy power diverter so that hardly bodes well!

dbt85 I have 2x3.0 AC coupled for the reason of finer control. A single 9kw inverter ( my other option ) was not as good with the granularity..... A friend has it and it chunks out 250w import or export rather than the Givenergy 30w....
