Battery power not being used

I used the api to set:

[64] AC Charge 1 Start Time = "00:30"
[65] AC Charge 1 End Time = "04:30"
[77] AC Charge Upper % Limit = 30
[17] Enable AC Charge Upper % Limit = true
[66] AC Charge Enable = true

I also left [24] Enable Eco Mode = true.

As expected, the battery topped-up from the grid so that it was at 30% at the end of the charging period.

However, I've noticed today that when demand exceeds solar generation it's resulting in grid import. Meanwhile, the battery is being charged when solar generation exceeds demand.

I assume I have changed a setting inadvertently, but I can't determine which one. Any ideas please?

Also, is there a clear explanation anywhere of the effect/purpose of API-accessible settings?

bernardh I have the same issue on my system - the battery charges quite happily from the solar panels, but refuses to discharge (unless I use the "timed discharge" feature). I've raised the issue with GivEnergy - will let you know if/when they come up with a fix.

Just out of interest, when did your system first exhibit the problem? On mine, it happened at exactly midnight on the 5th of August, which makes me think it's a software issue, rather than hardware.

404 Not Found Mine was working fine until yesterday when I tried fiddling with the API! I'll try using timed discharge. (Is there any reason why this could not just exclude those hours when potentially charging from A/C?)

bernardh It may well exclude the charging hours - I haven't used that feature, and I'm only using the timed discharge while I wait for GivEnergy to fix the Eco mode.

One thing I've noticed on my system is that "timed discharge" currently behaves in the same way as "timed export", i.e., it discharges the battery at the full rate rather than matching the demand from the house. I would be interested to know if your system does the same.

404 Not Found I can’t get any discharge from my battery at all at the moment. I’ll have to try GivEnergy tomorrow to see if they can work out what’s happening. I’ll report back!

Am I allowed to say "me too"? I think it started at 10:15A this morning. I should add that I cannot reboot the inverter from the web interface as it says "CE********* restart failed - Inverter Offline"

dirkkoopman That’s interesting. If it’s some kind of system outage I would hope that they’ll fix it first thing Monday.

I have cycled the power and left it over night and the inverter is still not working. I have 97% battery, but none of it has been used. But it is exporting.

That sounds like my system. I tried a full shutdown and restart yesterday too, but Eco mode still doesn't work as it should. I'll send a chasing email to GivEnergy today, as it's been over a week since I last heard from them.

dirkkoopman I have an answer and mine is all working again now: when I was using the API to set the AC charge, I knew that I had mistakenly set the Battery Cutoff Limit instead of the AC Charge Upper Limit. Despite changing this back (and it looking as though it was accepted) I was told by GivEnergy that there's a known issue that some settings don't stick - so it was still stuck on a high value which was preventing discharge. (They set it to the correct value and restarted the inverter.)

I hope your problem and that of @404 Not Found is as straightforward to resolve.

On the inverter settings screen there is a slider switch marked "timed discharge" which has been on for a while. I assumed it was an artifact of me having played with actually doing some manual timed discharging about a month ago. So yesterday I switched it off (and saved it). It wasn't until yesterday evening that I noticed that the inverter had stopped working. This morning, having physically powered off / on the whole system, and then (after 03h30 when the dongle finally started working - again - with the AP located 4 feet away) having determined that the inverter was still not working, I thought I would switch that slider on the settings screen on again, saved it, boiled some water and - lo - the inverter is now working again.

That slider seems to have side effects that should properly be removed and placed somewhere else, such as on (one of) the detailed setting screen(s). Or just renamed.

dirkkoopman Perhaps it's all down to the problem I was told about: settings not 'sticking' even though they appear to have been successful. (I mentioned to GivEnergy that I have [sometimes] made settings in the app that don't seem to be reflected correctly in the cloud dashboard and v-v and this was ascribed to that issue.)

Back to your problem, though; I do not have timed discharging set to on - just ECO is on - and my battery is discharging normally since the change made this morning.
