Hi. I'm hoping you can help me. I've just had the battery / invertor set up today and I am wondering what I need to change on the settings.
My aim was to charge the battery from solar only, but it has been charging from solar and grid. I have set it to the Eco option. I also want to make sure it doesn't keep topping up over night.
We had the solar panels up and running about a week before (the battery connection was delayed a week due to cable not arriving in time), and I know we have produced between 20kwh -24kwh from the solar each day, hence very keen not to draw from grid to keep topping the battery up
Settings are on Eco. Operating mode is reserve 4% Useable 96%. Charge power 2600w Discharge Power 2600w
Thanks in advance - Joanne
New battery installation / how to set to just charge from solar
I've just had mine installed and I have only had one full day of usage. I assumed ecomode would have realised after the the commissioning day it generated 15kwh that it would not charge via the grid to 100 percent.
The battery had already charged to 100 percent and had discharged to 60 at the end of day 1.
I've manually changed the battery settings to charge from grid only up to 40 percent, using timings based on the octopus go tariff and set the discharge the same, but the opposite times. You could set this lower, you will need to look at your usage and the battery percentage left at the end of each day.
The "coming soon" setting that charges based on the weather forecast should eliminate the need to tweak these settings.
The user manual is a bit scant regarding eco mode. The commissioner said that it would learn the usage I think.
Bear in mind this weekend is going to be cloudy and rainy which will be a better benchmark for the upcoming winter months.
I'm still a noob at this so any other advice or information on what eco mode actually does would be really handy.
Thank you. I will have to look at the system in more depth at weekend. I don't want any grid charge to battery and I have set that to solar only. Which it promptly ignored! Maybe because it is the first day.
Eventually I want to link it to my Octopus Agile export (I think I can) but info is scant and I want to understand system first.
Give it a few days. It will need to do a full calibration where it will do a full discharge and then charge up to 100%.

Hi
Is the import from the grid a large amount or just lots of small imports?
The system uses grid import and export to balance out the response time for the inverter, so, if you switch on a kettle it will initially draw most of this power from the grid for about 10-20 seconds before the inverter can ramp up to the full value.
Also, are you using the app, or online portal for your settings, ass I have found the app to not be 100% reliable, so always use the online portal to make any setting changes (I use the web portal even if I am using my phone).
I suspect what you are seeing ins the intial calibration discharge/charge cycle, which will draw charge from the grid if there is less than 3kW of PV available.
As Zakalwe says, set it to ECO and wait a couple of days.
