Hi, it seems my battery is not charging - battery is on 3% and the panels are supplying the grid in stead!? Can I change settings so the battery charges first before the panels supply the grid? Any advice most appreciated. Thanks! Agent_K.
Battery not charging
Agent_K Just set the inverter to ECO mode Enabled in the portal inverter settings tab. Don't forget to press Submit. Then refresh the web page to check the settings have been updated.
Also check the "battery options" in the "settings" tab on the inverter card, ensure the charge rate is set to 3kW.
I had the same issue as you - battery would not charge from PV - discovered the charge rate had somehow got set to zero. Put that back to 3kW, and everything worked as normal in "ECO".
Oh - and "ECO" mode will indeed charge the batteries before exporting to the grid. It is our default mode and works well.
So a new system here and regularly find that I'm exporting to the grid rather than charging the battery. The settings are correct (ECO) - but is frustrating as I feel it's wasted energy.

How new? Has it completed it's initial calibration routine (where it will dump all of the charge and then re-charge)?
Zakalwe Yep all done - it's about 6 weeks old. Can see from other threads. . .inverter lag? But it's not massive right now. . . just frustrating! 🙂
How much are we talking about?
There will always be a little bit both ways as the system cannot respond immediately. Also, don't forget that the portal only shows a snapshot every 5 minutes. Even the app, at best, refreshes every 10 seconds.
Our battery is also not charging, with excess solar energy being exported to the grid. Our system was installed about 5 days ago. How long before things settle down and battery does finally receive spare energy from the panels?
Should I pester our installer with this now or am I being impatient?
What setting is the inverter on?
Has the battery completed a calibration . (Full discharge and full charge)?
I have ECO enabled, Charge power 2600W, Discharge Power 2600W. I have no idea if the battery has completed a full calibration, however my installer is a professional so I image yes.
Timed Discharge - disabled.
Timed Export - disabled.
Timed charge - disabled now, but I have successsfully used that option to charge battery between 00:30 - 04:30.
Appreciate all your advice.
Hi... I had my system commissioned Aug 1st (2x5.2kw batteries and panels)
I had this exact problem... Was told it was a firmware problem
I sat frustrated, chased the installer... In the end I called Givenergy.... After 30 mins waiting I got told it would be a week before someone could look at it remotely
So I took a deep breath, and waited.....
I called back a week later to be told it couldn't be fixed remotely... And GE would schedule in a visit to my house which works be likely to be 2 weeks away...
Took another feel breath and waited for the email to confirm the visit
Another week went by... So I called to find the date of visit
Totally different experience, call was picked up by Aaron, enthusiastic and keen to help (he told me he was new)
He restarted my inverter remotely, then told me he works call me later
I thought... There goes another week...
But 20 mins later he called back... "It's fixed" he said
I was stunned... But he was right...
It started working there and then....
It stopped working the next day... I called and thankfully Aaron picked up again... Fixed it and since then it's been operating
So my advice works be to do the same, keep calling GE and don't leave it to your installer and don't get fobbed off...
I sent an email to GE telling them how good Aaron was... No reply...
Good luck!

You know you can restart the inverters yourself, don't you?
I do this whenever anything odd is happening.
Many thanks for your reply's - how do you restart the invertor?
Additional information :
Inverter Firmware Version
D0.450-A0.451
Battery Firmware Version
3007
Any of those outdated?
Does anyone from GE monitor thgese pages?
Always use the web portal, and not the mobile App, for anything like this.
Select My Inverter(s) on the left, and then you should see a Power button on the right, which when you hover over it, says 'Restart Inverter'. Just click once. That's it.
(I have multiple inverters, so mine may look slightly different to yours.)
3007 is the latest (although a 3008 exists in some cases).
I have Giv-AC3.0 inverters which use D0.534-A0.534. Given your very different firmware I assume you have a hybrid inverter.
And yes, they do monitor.
Many thanks! Will try a restart now and let you know how I get on.
OK done successfully. No flow to battery as yet but we are very over cast and generating only about 366 W, consuming 326W at present.
A big thank you! Sun has come out, generation exceeding 1kW and.....energy now flowing from PV into the battery!
Excellent. There is nothing like the feeling you get when your system is generating 'free' energy. And nothing like the feeling when your free energy is being given away 🙁
