Does anyone know of the best/cheapest way for me to be able to fit 2 additional thermocouples to my hot water tank (one at the top and one at the bottom) and then being able to see the output on my iPhone?
I don't want to switch things on and off, just see what the temps are.

or a https://shellystore.co.uk/product/shelly-uni-with-sensor/ plus another sensor - but does need more stuff as well to make it Safe!
anglefire Hiya, I currently have nothing. What you've posted looks great!! I've never heard of these before, I assume the thermocouple board piggybacks off the Shelly 1/1PM?
Whats the major difference between the 2 Shelly units? They look like they do the same thing to me :/
Ra The PM one also monitors any power/energy going through it - I've not used this particular device - but have several Shelly devices and they are good.
And yes it looks like it is a piggy back device.

Ra the web page is quite good on each device. I don’t use the app as the data doesn’t leave the house in my case and I don’t have an account with them as I don’t need it to do what I do with them.
Well I managed to get the kit wired up and the probes all reading their individual temperature so very pleased so far.
Will fit everything to my tank next weekend so I can start monitoring!

Its a plug'n'play thermostat for the immersion element. It comes with an app but I've written an addon for Home Assistant (if you use that) so you can time heating, boost if you have export etc...

I'm using Sonoff TH Elite (https://sonoff.tech/product/diy-smart-switch/th-elite/) for this exact purpose.
It's only got one pickup but i've got in the tank middle side port as the thermocouples for the S-plan controller.
The unit has a nice LCD screen on the front too.
I dont use it to control anything directly, but use it to report temps to Home Assistant.
I have my immersion heater automated using a heavy duty zigbee controlled relay, set to turn on when i'm exporting an large excess.
If i had see the pickups for the Shelly, i would have gone that way instead for data security...
I am also anxious about having the Sonoff switch a 3KW load on and off although technically it's rated for higher...
It sounds like both of you guys are far more advanced with your home assistant stuff than I am. All I'm doing at the moment is monitoring temps so I can determine (with some learning in the near future) whether I need to pop the boiler on or that I have enough hot water already.

dp100 anxious about having the Sonoff switch a 3KW load
I use Sonoff DUALR3 and some hand-crafted ESPs with relays and a new addition of Athom 3 gang wifi switch pre-loaded with Tasmota for the automation but they all switch contactors for the load. The contactors add more to the cost but means that they should last much longer and replacing the home automation device doesn't have to interfere with the mains wiring as such.
The 3 gang switch operates one contactor from the on-board relay for that channel but I use the other two switches to send MQTT to remote contactors to operate them.
