Has anyone added an additional battery? I’ve been quoted £5900 for a 9.5 battery which seems like a lot, though I do seem to be struggling to get anyone to quote 🙁
Anyone know of a company around Darlington that might actually still quote so I can do a comparison?
There some 8.2s floating about. I had an additional one installed recently for a bit over £3k
I had a quote for an additional 5.2kWh battery of £3900, didn't take them up on it.
If anyone fancies a laugh I just got quoted £7000 to supply and add an additional 8.2kWh to my existing set up! Safe to say I'm not going for it.
shawry Many installers are quoting silly prices for battery only because stock is limited and they make a ton more with full system installs including panels. It's a symptom of the times we are in.
The price now is around £5500 for a new install for the 9.5 battery with the inverter full setup
But as said before installers are adding crazy amounts to the price as hard to find stock
This bit is crazy, to add a second battery any size it's only 12% cheaper
So like if you wanted to add a second 9.5 your still looking at £5000
judgepd Same company have just emailed me again as they "realised" that I didn't need another inverter (I told them that) and now have a quote for £5,785.92 to add a second 8.2kWh. Still not worth it for me.

I went looking for the nearest Giv-approved Gold installer and ended up with ecopartners near Bradford. Everyone else told me they were too busy and/or no longer dealing with GivEnergy.
Having said that, I don't have a fully working system yet...
Quick question, do you need to match the extra battery with the system you already have or can you literally go with any battery?

Anomnomnomaly No is the short answer because the inverter communicates with the Battery Management System over Modbus and expects specific registers to contain the right values. There may be a standard for BMS registers, meaning it might work, but I believe Givenergy wouldn't honour the inverter or existing battery warranty.
Does adding an additional battery to a solar system now qualify for 0% vat?

yes if you buy an additional battery without solar panels, there’s no VAT on the battery

Or, here's a crazy idea, just let people plug an extra battery in themselves as long as it is indeed an addition and doesn't involve any changes to inverter wiring, just a G2-G2 cable. These prices (as I've also found myself with a £5500 quote for an additional 9.5) are absurd.
Just asked my installer to add a 9.5 to my existing 9.5 now vat removed.
£3000 which includes connecting cable and commissioning.

Seems a good deal then. I’m debating whether I should upgrade my gen1 5kw to a gen3 but Im not sure how much wiring is involved. More than a battery I think…
I got a second 9.5 battery installed for £3,000 a couple of weeks ago as no VAT.. It was a bit of a faf for the installer to get it to work as they had trouble getting the firmware to upgrade on our existing system and then the new battery, but all is good now
