Octopus export tariffs

Our GE setup was installed in May and although we export very little due to batteries we did get round to setting up an Octopus export account. We chose fixed rather than agile due to confusing, (I think) the agile export tariff with the agile import one import

Agile export was 7.5p until this week when it has been raised to 15p. I recently asked Octopus about switching to Agile export and they said "On our Agile Outgoing tariff, the price you'll get paid per kilowatt hour ranges from 4p (outside peak hours) to around 10p/kWh at peak" but looking at this it doesn't seem to have dropped below 15p in the last 48 hours.

Would you expect Agile export rates to be consistently at this level, ie - should I change?

We were on fixed export at 7.5p/kWh and moved to agile export a month ago. The export rates I'm seeing are typically between 15 and 55p/kWh. If you want to export, 16:30-19:00 is where the money is.

But like you, since we got the battery, we aren't exporting much any more.

If you want to change over, theoretically you can do it by emailing them. However, the email may get ignored. The way around that is to apply for an agile export account on the Octopus web site as if you hadn't already got an export account.

mrand31 They did reply to my email about 2 days after I had it switched by re-applying for the agile tariff.

In the past I have found Octopus very quick to reply to emails but this time it took over two weeks. I guess all energy companies are swamped with communications from anxious people at the moment.

GribinIsaf Not much money in it either way but fun to experiment!

We are about to switch to an Energy Local scheme which gives us overnight electricity at 12.6p so I suppose during the winter I can amuse myself by filling up the battery overnight and discharging via Octopus Agile at teatime the next day.

I find that on Agile export we can export far less and still get paid more than the fixed.

I mainly want to use what I produce but if it does go to export then why not get the best price!!

Stevef1964 Very much this. Basically, for the past 6 months, our credit for export has meant our gas and electricity supplies have been foc, or actually income positive for the really good months.
At no time has the Agile export rate been anywhere near as low as the fixed one.

GribinIsaf - I changed to agile export tarrif in July- and found it a very lucrative move- especially if you export a lot- ie when on holidays in august..
I exported around 360kwh in august and for £156 back ! The export rate In the summer sometimes goes to 80p/kWh so is well worth it!

Do you have to be an Octopus customer for their Agile export rate?
I'm currently with GEUK on a legacy TIDE tariff so pay 7.5p overnight, 17.1p day and 32p peak but their export tariff current is fixed at 7.5p.

I'm reluctant to change until my tariff ends in March 23 as there import prices are so good.

Email seg@octopus.energy to find out more." from here. Not sure what that means regarding Octopus export tariffs available to those not having import with them. The 4.1p figure is bound to be out of date.

I am on GEUK TIDE Tariff. As far as I am aware if you are on TIDE you have to be on both their import and export tariffs.

I'm on the Octopus SEG and the rates are so low fixed at 4.1p . I asked the question if they were raising this and they replied no. I'm on Go as we have an ev and they won't let you have both Go and decent export. Any advice? I'm nearing the end of my fixed tarrif with them . Thanks Gareth

gareth0898 Octopus raised their standard export tariff to 15p/unit now, but you cant do this if you have go. A lot depends on your usage/export amounts.
You can do export AND have their standard economy 7 tariff, which is now 14.9p/unit (actually reduced from 20.7p as of 1st Oct)overnight for 7 hours.
So you would have to do the calcs to see if 15p export is more beneficial to you than 4p export when you are paying a higher rate for electricity. Every one will be different depending on usage and also solar/battery installation.
I contacted octopus and asked if there was any limitation on switching tariffs, to suit the time of year when export is much higher and they said no limit to how many times you can switch (unless you're on fixed). So it could be worthwhile using one tariff over winter and another for summer months.
