Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience in being able to upgrade/sell their Gen1 inverter in favour of getting Gen2. My installer doesn't offer the ability to sell my current unit back to them as part of an upgrade. Unsure if this is just them, or if there's somewhere to sell it elsewhere?

Thanks!

What’s the advantage of the Gen 2 inverter?

An approximately 3.6kW vs 2.6kW max output

My roof only gets direct sun noon passes, generating 4.4kW from solar. Sadly with Gen1 I can only put 2.6kW into the battery at once meaning the rest going to the grid is useless to me. Going for Gen2 would allow for an extra 1000w battery storage rate

Did you make the switch? My Gen 1 is being replaced to a Gen 2 shortly.

How are you doing this?
Are you buying new Gen2 and selling old Gen1?
Is there some sort of GE scheme available

SteveCook Hi - just posted a more in-depth started thread; essentially I ordered a Gen 2 but only a Gen 1 was available at install time so that was installed until the Gen became available. I would guess the Gen 1 goes back for spares / warranty replacement inventory.

Thanks
I asked for a Gen2. The installer confirmed that was what I was going to get.
When he installed in October I asked where the comms antennas were and he said it was a Gen1 'cos he could not get a Gen2 at the time.
I have been asking him since what he is going to do about it, but having paid him, he is now very evasive.

Is it specified on your order? Did you pay anything by credit card? If so, use those as leverage.

SteveCook If you have any written communication that says you ordered and agreed a Gen 2, then that is what you should get. In my case, I had a note saying I was going to get a Gen 2 and at commission time, I added a note to the sign off docs saying it was a Gen 1 and it needed to be replaced with a Gen 2 per the order agreement. It took a while, but as the documentation was on my side, it was sorted as it should be. Keep plenty of records any communication is in writing.

I have an email from me to him following the issue of his quote.
My email says please confirm I will be getting a Gen2 inverter.
His reply confirms it will be Gen2.

His response now is they are the same price and that a Gen1 was all he could get.
He did a good job and I had paid by BACS, assuming (naively) assuming that as it was in writing he would do something about it, as it was possibly the supplier who let him down.
When I ask what he ordered, he is suitably vague!

You have a case against him then. How you pursue it and if it is worth the hassle is entirely up to you.
Clearly he has breached the terms of the contract that you had with him by supplying goods that were not agreed to.

I'm in the same situation - installer installed Gen1 inverter last year as that was all that was available at the time - despite having committed to installing a Gen2 inverter.
It's now 6 months later - having no problems with the setup - and I wonder whether there is any benefit in my requesting the promised Gen2, since I only have a 5.2kW battery (which is limited to 2600 input/output anyhow, iirc)
Your thoughts would be appreciated!

simondoyle probably not a lot of benefit if you only have the 5.2 battery.. if planning on anything bigger might be
