Battery unexpectedly charging from grid

At about 0800 this morning I noticed my smartmeter registering about 3kw consumption with nothing additional running. I traced it to my new GivBat 9.5 charging from the grid (it is already calibrated). It automatically charged the battery to 5% then stopped. Is this some sort of protection device when the battery capacity drops to a certain level? If so, can this "auto top up" be rescheduled? I cannot find anything about this in the GivEnergy info and my solar installer is not aware of the issue but guessed that it might be some protection device to prolong the life of the battery.

It is automatic when the battery voltage drops too low and you can't choose when it happens. It shouldn't happen too often to really worry about.

Thanks. Looking further at my GivEnergy dashboard it seems to infer a minimum capacity of 4% so I assume it will auto top up from the grid below that level. However, I also note there is an "Eco" mode and a "timed charge" mode and wonder if that could be used to schedue it. I should add that I am on a standard Octopus flexible tariff at this time and so not looking to take advantage of any lower rate electricity to charge the battery. As you may guess, I am new to this and it is quite a steep learning curve to get the best from the system!

It will stop discharging and powering your house at that set minimum level (e.g. 4%), but if it sits at that level for too long, the voltage will eventually drop further due to a small amount of energy being used to power the circuitry in the battery and inverter. It's most likely to happen if, as you say, you aren't charging it overnight and (assuming you have solar) it's running out frequently during winter.

For standard use, your battery should always be in eco mode as that means, charge from solar and discharge to power house. Timed charge is only useful if you have cheaper electricity at certain times.

jefflock join the club, my battery a 5.2 will also charges when down at 2%, November has been unusually very cloudy and dark only twice have I managed 100% charge. My gripe is when my battery is charged anywhere from 30 to 100% it skways sends a little back to the grid, I am looking to stop this. Like you I am on a standard tariff

I just checked my dashboard and the "Eco" mode was disabled although I understand from GivEnergy that it should have been set at "Eco" by default. I am not helped by the fact that the user guide I have from GivEnergy appears to be out of date as it refers to 3 mode settings that do not exist on the user portal! Unless I am missing something the user guides are pretty poor and this community site is the place to go to learn the system and its quirks.
