if we do a timed charge from the grid., why when its finished does my Inverter draw from the grid and not from the battery?

It happens every time we do this, surely if you have 80% in the battery, it should not be sat idel while my inverter continues to draw from the grid - and this is 15 minutes after the timed charge has ended.

i have the 8.2kwh battery and a 5.6 Kw Inverter.

Because, for those of us with a cheap night rate, we don’t want to use the battery until the expensive rate kicks in.

not helpful!

its back to using the battery - but surely it should not take 20 minutes for it to return to correct behaviour!

lightningad , please clarify exactly what you mean by 'finished'.

Is it that the SOC has reached the target value, but still within the timed charge period?

Or, that the time period has finished?

@TX200 is correct, in that during the timed charge period (set to match the cheap rate period), for maximum efficiency you do not want the battery to discharge to feed a house load. It is most efficient for the load to draw straight from the grid. Only once the cheap rate period has expired do you want the battery to take over.

it had reached 100% charge and twenty minutes after the charging period had ended it was still drawing from the grid, and not using the battery.

We don't have a cheap rate overnight tariff, so occasionally will charge during the day when the panels are not producing much. That way we can run the house from battery overnight and not have to worry about power cuts. We know we will use the grid power anyway, so its more convenient for us to charge during day time then run from battery till its all gone.

Unless you have circuits wired into the EPS, then the inverter and battery will go offline if there is a powercut. These are grid-tied systems and they ordinarily do not provide power in the event of a grid failure.

Zakalwe we have a separate consumer unit connected to the eps output and just the circuits we want to continue running during a blackout.
