Connecting a Solar-capable Smart Charger

Hi Folks,

I'm running a domestic solar panel system incorporating a Givenergy 5.0 Hybrid inverter and a Givenergy 9.5 kWh battery. I've given up waiting for the GivEnergy EV charger since my car is panting for a regular and decent charge - and sooner rather than sometime please!

I have ordered a Hypervolt solar-capable EV charger for installation later this week and would like it to show up on my Givenergy app Flow diagram. Is there anything in particular I need to tell the installer? Does it just “happen” when he connects it or do I need to add an API or something somehow? Or maybe it won't/can't be visible? Any ideas or experiences gratefully received.

A second issue is that when the Hypervolt is set to charge on solar but with an extra boost from the grid, it sees the "grid" as "grid and domestic battery" so is likely to drain the latter in the process. Anyone have any ideas on whether there are any ways to fool the system by fitting the Hypervolt CT clamp to another bit of the system so that it only draws the boost from the grid and leaves my battery alone and charging - or, at least, not draining...? Sorry I can't be more specific but I'm only peripherally clued up in this department but I've heard it said that that might be possible. If so, can anyone be more specific so I can pass it on to my installer?

It won't show up in the GivEnergy app. AFAIK, only the GE charger will show up.
You might be able to get it to show in Home Assistant by using something like the Power Flow dashboard.

Spotto I've no experience of the Hypervolt as ours is a Zappi. There's lots of advice on how to set up a Zappi to soak up grid export but I think you're the first "Hypervolter". Maybe someone else on the forum also has the same kit and can advise.

Zakalwe Thanks. I've just had a look at that there Home Assistant and it seems to want to point at server. Not something I'm competent at, that I understand, or feel the need to learn, I'm afraid. All a bit techie when all I want to do is see my car charging and to get on with stuff. If there was some sort of ready-cooked app that would work out of the box, that would be good but HA will lead me down a rabbit hole it seems.

Oh well, no problem. I'll leave it. No doubt someone will come up with something in the next few years. Thanks again for you thoughts.

Hi All

Ive just had solar and battery installed to my house and was wondering the same thing about HyperVolt and getting it to show on GE dash (I had HyperVolt installed last year before thinking about solar, doh!)

I was going to check here and also on the hypervolt forums too and see if there is something that can be done, the hypervolt is controlled by a raspberry Pi and the team are very helpful so maybe some API magic from them? I have home assistant running so there is that and as a last resort I was also thinking there might be something that can be done with Octopus Labs (switch over on 25th July so not logged in yet) as a work around.
