I had an AC coupled inverter and a 5.3kWh battery installed on the 24th November 2022. The battery did a charge/discharge cycle and every thing seemed OK except for the battery SoC never going above 4%. Then one day the SoC went to 100% and the battery powered my house for a few hours until the SoC got to 37% and it suddenly dropped to zero. Since then the SoC has been jumping up to 5% and then ramping down to 0% about once an hour. On occasions it jumps to 100%. The battery firmware version is 3009 and the inverter is D0.535-A0.535.

Thanks interesting reading, it seems like GivEnergy is selling a product they know is not fit for purpose. As you can see 3009 doesn't fix it either!
KMSPaul There is a lot of concern in the user community but we are assured that a fix is coming. However, a hard deadline of last Friday has already been missed. A few ad hoc bits of feedback from beta testers suggests that there is cause for optimism with the new firmware - we'll know soon I guess.
I emailed GivEnergy and they got back to me very quickly. They explained that it is a known problem, a fix will be available in the near future and an update of the situation was due on Friday (23/12/22).

That is the sort of thing a lot of people have experienced. My I suggest you report it to GivEnergy so they know but you'll have to wait for the new firmware update that has been promised soon.
I have experienced the same sudden jumps in the SOC value up to 100% from roughly 60% to 80% whilst monitoring a standard charge from the PV system sporadically for the last week or so. Eventide causes the battery to discharge to the house as per the full normal range from 100% to the expected level around 15% to 5% the next morning. I have also found that, if the minimum level is not replenished due to the lack of sun, the original minimum value "drains" away towards 0% over 36 hours or so. The battery has only been at 0% SOC for a maximum of 2 hrs before being rescued by some sunshine.
Is there any danger of causing damage to the system if I leave it wallowing at 0% for a longer period?

Mine tends to go from 5% to 0 in about an hour at the moment, but then jump up to 5% with no input from anywhere. About twice a day it jumps to 100% but very quickly goes back down to 5% and if the battery was a couple of watt hours instead of 5.2 kWh. I need to get the corrected firmware before I can do a proper check on the data.
First day of sun in quite a wile, battery charged to 100% so it says but it only really charged 1.9kwh when its a 10kwh battery same as you version 3009

my one also had a big jump from 79% to 100%. it seems that the system is not working reasonably.
And I stopped the discharge during this short daylight and cloudy days to protect the battery. I find that even there is no discharging to the home, the battery will drain 8% per 24hr. I don't think the battery can really store the electricity.
It's good to know that it's a general problem and it's being worked on as we speak. It's not quite so good when you realise that this problem seems to go right back to July. GivEnergy are still selling systems that do not work due to software problems that they are fully aware of and have been incapable of fixing for 6 months.
KMSPaul The issue was first reported over a year ago. Hence the growing frustration from many users who have taken to various channels on the web to complain. There is growing confidence that the fix is coming soon however. It really needs to before it gets completely out of hand.

My battery jumped from around 10% to full this morning. I'm missing out on a load of solar energy, which is now being fed back into the grid roster than the battery, which can't possibly be full. It's going to take a long time to payback its costs if it continues like this..
Mine does seem to have got worse as time goes on. Has anyone tried resetting the inverter and does it help at all?

This is what HomeAssistant recorded. The load is being picked up by the solar diverter, but that will only be for a short while, then the power will be going back into the grid again. What a waste.
Experiencing the same issue. I have a 7.8kWh battery but my battery jumped to 100% after charging about 1.8 and rest is now going to grid.
Last time I phoned GivEnergy resulting in them doing it a battery calibration which seemed to have fixed the issue. But the issue has crept up again.
The short version is that you have purchased a product that doesn't work as described. Until they release a fix that they have been promising for about a year now it will continue like that.

miketingle The email I got from GivEnergy said "I believe this to be a known firmware issue. We are currently working on a fix, unfortunately I don't have a more definite idea of when this will be released. I would recommend keeping an eye on our forums for any updates regarding this."
So no, not right now. It's disappointing.
I seem to have the same problem, battery charge trundling up to 40% then suddenly being at 100%. I spoke to a support guy who said my battery voltages were very "spikey" and that might be part of the problem. From looking at my logged data, the range during the last 24 hours (which was really sunny) goes from 52.21v min to 56.79v max. The battery spec sheet says it's good for 43.2v min to 58.5v max so I'm toward the upper end of the operating range but in spec.
Do these number look right compared to other peoples? My recorded voltages roughly track the PV generation peaks, is that what others are seeing?
As I mentioned before, my battery % drains down to 0% over an hour, the shoots up to 5% and drains down to 0% over the next hour. Every 4-6 hours the battery shoots up to 100% and drains to zero in 30 minuets (supplying the house), and then goes back to cycling between 5% and 0%. Charging the battery from the solar panels or, quite randomly, the mains supply, causes the ramp to 100% very quickly taking only 0.1 kWh to get to 100% and stop charging. The solar power is then lost to the grid.
The battery voltage follows this pattern, peaking at 53.3v at 5% and down to 52.8 at 0%. both of these values start a little lower and ramp up a couple of 1/10 ths between the 100% spikes. The battery voltage does go up to 5.4v - 5.45v when the battery is charging, surly this is expected as the inverter voltage has to be higher than the battery voltage to get it to charge. So if I had purchased a 100Wh battery I would be really happy with it's operation. The fact that the battery is suppose to be 52 times that capacity is upsetting.
KMSPaul Call Givenergy or web chat during office hours and ask them to look at it. It's not right and they're best placed to help you identify how to remedy the situation.

I contacted the company about a very similar problem, and the first response I got, on 20 December was as follows:
This is a currently known error which we are looking into in relation to an error with the battery percentage not calculating correctly, we should have a firmware update available coming soon to resolve this.
I contacted them again to ask about the 'should' in the answer, and I got this response the following day:
When the jump occurs, it realises its actually 100% and not 70% for instance so jumps to its true %.
So I think I'm no better off!!
I have the same issue with my recently installed system [commissioned 9th December] but I have the development firmware [D0.499-A0.499 and battery 3008] as it stood at 19/12/2022. I got this version because I had set my system to a minimum charge level of 60% to provide for power cuts and this setting did nothing - the battery cycled down to about 2% each day. So, I queried this with GE several times and they volunteered that they had development firmware under which the lower limit did work. I asked to have this installed and they did it for me on 19th December. From then, until yesterday, my battery cycled between 60% and a maximum of 94% on one particularly sunny day.
Yesterday, when we looked at the monitor software, the system showed battery at 2% reached by an abrupt drop at 23:20pm to 23:25pm the previous night. There was then a recovery to 3 or 4% but since them the battery is neither accepting charge nor feeding the house.
I asked if my system could be reset and GE's reply was: "we would be unable to do this, the issues regarding this will be fixed when the new firmware revision is released."
My inclination at the moment is to demand that my supplier takes the battery and inverter back and then arrange for the fitting of another brand.
I thought I would deliberately charge my battery from the grid, to see if I got the same 'jump' in battery percentage as I do from the panels. I thought the answer would be the same and, yes, it is. Vertical line from 40% to 100%. A fault somewhere - I just hope it is not poorly engineered batteries!!!
Hello everyone, this is my first post. I had my system installed on 08/07/22 and consists of 10 395w Trina panels linked to a Giv 3.6 Hybrid Inverter to a Giv 8.2 battery, by a professional installer with all the correct certification. We also had fitted a manually switched "Critical Circuit Protection" system just to power the Gas Boiler and a few lights from the battery during a power outage (good idea in the summer, but useless in winter with little solar to keep the battery topped up). So
Ive come onto this thread hopeing that Id find an answer to how to alter the battery settings in the Giv Cloud App to allow me to keep 50% of my battery power ready for any outage.
But having read the earlier posts above, I can also confirm that at 03.11 on the 17/10/22 the battery went from 58% down to 0%. Also this month it did the opposite and went from a low % up to fully charged in about 10 minutes directly from the Grid, it then retained the charged and released it as expected over the next day until it reached about 0%. Sorry if this is too long a post, just hope it makes sense, thanks.
HI all I,m new to this. My system Inverter and 9.5 Kw battery were installed in late October 22. The solar engineer said on initial start the battery would discharge to zero and then take power from the grid to fully charge to 100%. This being a programmed cycle—the battery recharge took 4hrs to 100%. The battery then slowly discharged on household loading over approximately 24hrs, including a small % solar top-up. In my situation, there is not enough solar at this time of year so from the date of installation the daily cycle has generally been 4% dropping to zero over 12 hours approximately, and if I'm lucky a little solar too. After two weeks of this cycle, on reaching zero % the battery shot up to 100 % within 5 -10 minutes and then discharged to the house over the next 24 hours. I keep a daily recording from the EMS meter. The sudden increase from 0 to 100% was not taken from the grid at that moment. So there must surely have been a trickle charge to the battery over that 2 week period to achieve this. Since the installation, there has been a slight increase in my meter reading which would account for this. From the date of installation, I have had this boost cycle to 100% charge every 14 days. Something like this, which happens on a regular 2-week basis, since commission, I feel must be intended. I'm of the opinion that it is a programmed battery maintenance schedule as I believe it is not good to completely discharge the battery for a period of time, and the battery needs a periodical charge to 100% to keep it exercised and in good health. I would be interested to see if this continues to happen when there is enough solar to charge the battery to 100%, as you would think this would override any battery maintenance schedule if that is what it is. As it is early days for me I have not experienced any sudden loss of %.

It is most likely you are seeing the results of a software bug.
