Small generation to grid not battery?

Not much sun this morning and the solar generation is about 50-100w above the house load. However this small incremental amount is showing as going to the grid not the batteries. Is this usual please i.e. batts won't charge below a certain threshold. It's not just a transient display issue on the app, it appears to be a steady small export.

New system so still learning! Cheers.

[unknown] The inverter doesn't appear to have any thresholds; it just diverts anything and everything to the right places. I've seen loads as low as 15W being reported (EPS) and the output from PV is blended with battery power and sent to house load as soon as PV is above the voltage threshold. What you may be seeing is a snapshot of data as loads and power flow is changing. There's always a bit of overshoot as the inverter matches it's power sources to load demands and the snapshots in the app (even at every 10 seconds) and portal will rarely add up correctly.

I've had the same issue. Only had the system for a week or two so still getting my head around it all. Is it possible to turn off exporting to the grid at all? Whenever the system as done it there's been room on the battery to store it. I realise this may not be the case in the summer, but as I learn the system and its settings I figure I can better tailor it and optimise it.

Tim Thank you. I'm hoping it's a transient reporting thing but at the moment we seem to be pushing around 100w to the grid pretty consistently. It was working as expected yesterday but we had more sunshine and excess.

sponev There are plenty of threads on this forum about small import/export values. The EM115 meter used by the Givenergy inverter to control the flow of energy (ie minimise import/export) is certified for metering and while the inverter uses the data from the meter for voltage, frequency and so on, the regular snapshots do not add up correctly. The correct place to record your import/export is your energy supplier's smart meter. Most will have separate import/export registers and since this is what you are being billed against, it is the de facto standard. Our Givenergy cloud portal reports import/export < 0.2kWh per day at times whereas the smart meter records as much as 1kWh per day. We're not too bothered about the difference between the two systems as the primary purpose of the EM115 is to minimise import/export (except when you've a full battery and surplus PV). The only way to get the two metering systems to agree is for the smart meter to have a Modbus interface which Givenergy could support instead of the EM115.

With respect to turning off export, it's not practical to prevent export as the inverter takes a few seconds to ramp up and down, resulting in small amounts of import/export. The best way to monitor actual import/export is to check your smart meter or IHD every day or two. Watching the numbers on the app or portal is very addictive but as they are snapshots taken at different times with a randomly varying load within the house, it's almost impossible for any snapshot to make sense. You have too look at the numbers over a period of time.

It looks like transients - sun is out now and we have around 2.5kw incoming with the majority going to the battery. Points about the app values noted - appreciated.
