I am 2 days into my Givenergy journey (Solar PV + GIvenenergy inverter and batteries! If there are any top tips for controlling what is happening and when I would love to read them. Ideally I want to automate based on Octopus agile incoming prices.

So far I have been underwhelmed by Givenergy's integration as Agile has been almost flat rate for the last two days but I've still been charging and discharging my battery which seems wasteful. It hasn't even been charging at the cheapest half hour slots overnight. I am on the "solar and battery" automation but would I be better off on one of the "standalone" options?

Are there better ways to automate this in an intelligent way that don't involve me programming it myself? Ideally I'm imaging some rules like don't charge the battery if the rate isn't 10% cheaper than the rate in the next 12 hours...

I've just signed up to Octopus R&D as it looks like that might give me some more options? - anyone using this?

Sorry not using that tariff, as no one has posted yet, i'l tell you what i do

i'm on economy 7 octopus

Using 6.4 solar PV + 9.5 battery south facing

From march to november, we use eco mode on the battery, no timers, nothing set (depending on the weather)

And from december to feb, we use economy 7 with the timer set for the battery (depending on the weather)

We pay direct debit just £5 per month and works well over the year

I have to say iv not been a big fan of the agile tariff it's the unknown bill or profit

Anyways hope this some kind of helps till someone else on your tariff posts

naltsta check with the Octopus R&D app, that might have some logic otherwise you're looking at something like Home Assistant to automate what you want.

I don't believe the automation on GE portal is that clever, but I'm on Go not Agile so not sure.

naltsta an effective scheme to benefit from Agile is more complex than using a combination of Go and PV... it really needs a 24-hour look-ahead at rates, generation and consumption to establish when to charge/hold/discharge and the related SoC targets. And it also depends on the value of exports during each timeslot.
