I hope someone can shine a light on what's happening with my battery.
My 5kw GE Inverter and 5.2kWh GE Battery were commissioned last Thursday. The Installer said it might take a few days for the system to settle down. At first everything seemed OK, but for the last couple of days the battery has been going from 4% to 100% in as little as 5 minutes! It's been discharging almost as fast. I know that there's no way that it's actually doing that, but the system thinks it is, so I can't charge the battery with my excess solar so it's being wasted.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I suggest reading it quickly and contacting your installer. Key note this issue was first reported over 16 months ago.
That sounds more like a bad DC connection, causing a high resistance, which in turn can confuse the software.

PhilR10 do you know if the calibration cycle has been completed by your installer? it should do a full discharge, then a full charge.

Very little, to be honest. And when they have it has largely been missleading, sadly. But your symptoms do not sound like the SOC issue to me.

ToothyChris Several days normal use then the battery jumping from empty to full? Does sound like the soc jump issue. But I might be a little negative about that..... so worth getting the installer out to double check connections as suggested :-)
@PhilR10 Not much. There is a beta firmware and on going test. I have had it installed for 14 days and seeing some interesting results. Some positives some negatives. But I would say it is not ready for public release.

I'm more than happy to be proven wrong....
My reasoning for thinking it is not the SOC issue is as follows: Usually after a jump up to 100% from x% you get access to that additional energy, which was already in the battery, so you then get to use that energy to power your home etc. But in this case PhilR10 said that the discharge was just as quick, suggesting something else as the underlying cause.
Reviving an old thread I know.
I left my desk for about 30 mins today, it wasn't charging the battery at all because not enough sun/light as cloud cover.
Come back and battery showing as 100%, and generation had only jumped as high as 1.2kw for a bit.
It was now pumping excess out to the grid... some 730wh. Charge to the battery today was just 300wh
So I set it to discharge to the grid and it is doing so at 2.47kw and the battery has dropped to 83%
I can't figure out if this is the SOC issue or not.
Looking at the graphs, it doesn't appear that it could have generated enough to raise the battery level from 4% to 17% because it's now dropped 17%.
Is there some kind of test I can do... is this just a faulty reading? Has my battery been almost fully charged all along but reporting it was only 4%

I would let the house use it up slowly, and then see how much energy came out of it (thus proving my assertion above)
Well I discharged 17% to the grid, cooked some lunch and used a little more and as it got cloudy this afternoon... it's been slowly draining it down.
According to the portal, it's discharged 2.6kwh and as that's behind and it's currently reading as 37% left in it... I'd agree that it was charged and completely wrong about what was in it.
I could understand if there was a discrepancy of a few %... but claiming it's empty when it was probably 98% charged... WTF man.
And that is why so many of us are more than a tad upset!
The consensus seems to be, to allow the batteries to fill to 100% every week or two, and down to 4% as well.
Checked the power graphs this morning
As you can see, it started to charge and then jumped to 100% in a few minutes... discharged during the day as we were using things like washing machine and dishwasher and then at around 30% seemed to go to 0% and recharged back to 4%
Data suggests that only 3kwh of the 5.2kwh battery was discharged... which is roughly a 3rd lower than it should discharge... or about 30%

This is a brand new installation... 5 weeks old.
