I have solar pv, GivEnergy hybrid inverter and 9.5kwh battery plus a myenergi eddi and zappi. Since the installation I've had issues with the eddi regularly switching power to water heating throughout the day even when the weather is dull and overcast, and even around 4 - 5a.m. and late evening when its totally dark. I thought this was an issue with the eddi and have been liaising with Myenergi support. It was suggested that I try increasing the Export Margin setting from 100W to 500W as a test. Sure enough it virtually stopped the constant switching. According to GivEnergy support this means that it is the battery that is regularly exporting to the grid. The battery is set to ECO, so I've no idea what might be wrong. Any advice please?

If your inverter is set to ECO is should not export to grid from the battery. Just to make sure there are no rogue settings use the portal My Inverter | Settings to Reset to Defaults and then set ECO eabled and any times charging period you want for you tarriff. The other thing to worry about is the reaction time of the inverter. It can be a few seconds so when it is discharging to meet a high load (e.g. a 4kw ssp switches off there might be a short period of a few seconds where the inverter is still discharging but there's no or little load this will cause a brief export. This is what the eddi needs to ignore. I don't have one but is there an option to delay taking load when the set export threshold is exceeeded?
I should have clarified, there isn't a great deal of export going on - today for example there has only been a total of 490Wh exported. What seems to be happening is 'spikes' that trigger the eddi. One of the settings I've been advised to set on the eddi is a 'response delay', which I've now got set at 60 seconds, which I would have thought would be easily enough.

I think you will find the response delay will cure that now, you should be able to drop the export margin down again too.
As mentioned, I have a response delay set on the eddi of 60 seconds, and If I have the export margin set any lower than 500W with this delay set I get this constant switching issue on the eddi! Surely this must mean that the battery is causing the problem, as even when the battery is half full and its dark or a dull day this 'export' shouldn't be happening..
I have now tried resetting the Inverter by the way..

The Export Threshold / Export Margin settings are only available on the Master Device. They are then applied to all the devices in the network as the Master device allocates the power to each linked device

Thanks for the reply. Just to clarify, is yours a dc or ac battery? Interesting that you have export margin rather than threshold set up, plus 'avoid drain' on the battery. I will have a go with those settings, but wonder if yours is an ac battery?
All batteries are by definition DC.
Imagine the possibilities, with an AC battery and a servo-operated variac....
