Inverter Status at Idle following Battery Charge

Had. Gen 1 inverter installed last week with 2x 9.5KWh batteries, Still waiting on my panel install so using them for home storage charging on Eco7 overnight.

I have it set to charge between midnight and 7am, which its doing, when the charge stops at 100% the inverter drops to an Idle status and although its set to Eco mode the house is drawing from the grid. After about an hour the inverter comes back online and works as I'd expect. Why does the inverter drop to idle?

Northwarks You don't say what time the inverter came back on line but be aware that during the timed charge period, the inverter charges to the Charge to % at the Charge Power. If this means that the battery reaches the Charge to % before the timed charge period ends, the battery "bobbles along" and the house is fed from grid until the end of the timed charge period. At this point, the inverter reverts to ECO mode and meets house demand from PV/battery.

Yes, as Tim states... because you have it set until 7am, it will basically ensure the battery charges and stays at 100% until 7am. It doesn't charge to 100%, then start discharging immediately, it uses the grid to keep house and battery "maintained" to the target 100% until 7am.

I figured this out - The installer set the time to GMT-1 (or never set it at all), this introduced an 'extra hour' where it sat idle until 8am.

I wasn't aware the charge essentially paused Eco mode, now I know this and the time setting its worked perfect this am.

Guess that's one to watch out for, timezone not set right! Shame it's not overly obvious in the portal!

Might be worth sending in some feedback via the web portal about that.

As for holding the charge until the timed charge period ends - it makes sense when you think about it. Why would you want to use battery when still in the off peak rate - save that for later when it's more expensive. Especially considering there is a round trip loss converting to DC and back again. That's fine when you are buying cheap (or generating for free) and using whilst expensive, but otherwise not so good!

I agree it makes sense, just didn't realise this was a 'feature'.

This is just a stop gap until my panels arrive and probably winter months
