HY5-Gen2 - Charge power - Not all settings actually work

Just recently had my temporary basic non-battery inverter swapped out for the HY5-Gen2 with Batt-G2-9.5, having waited since June 2022 for it to arrive.

Whilst trying to keep my battery warm during the recent cold snap by trying to maintain an overnight charge for the full 7 hours of my Economy 7 cheap tariff period, I was setting the 'Charge Power' to a suitable value to aim for up to 100% charge at the end of the period.

I have found that a Charge Power of 380 W works correctly (actual = around 390 W), but any setting lower than that (285, 190 and 95 W) still keeps charging at 390 W, even the 0 W option still charges at 390 W.

Higher powers of 475, 570 and 665 W, all found to work correctly.

No difference between when the charge power is set via Inverter-Settings or the Remote Control pages.

It’s to do with the battery capacity, the smaller the pack the smaller the increments. I did a write up on it somewhere.
It’s because deep in the inverter the charge rates are scaled 0-50 so only so many steps are available.

Edit, should learn to read - there’s also a bug on G2 I’m sure mentioned somewhere that they don’t go to 0W for some reason.

hoggy , thanks for the reply.

Surely then the 190 W choice should work correctly with a 9500 W battery.
9500/50 = 190 W, if they are all equal sized steps.

Plus I found that 475 and 665 W worked correctly, when if only 50 steps then they should not, but 380 and 570 should and they also do work.

Out of interest, are my inverter and battery firmware versions classed as beta, or those on general release?

Simon_C I was just looking at this in relation to the HA integration. The 9.5 battery and the gen2 seem to use 95 watt increments. So use nominally 38 of the 50 possible values to get you to 3600.

Simon_C yeah it should all work down to 0 but doesn’t. Believe it’s been addressed in the beta firmware if you dig through that post about it.

Basically it scales as follows:
(Battery capacity x 0.5C) / 50 = steps.
9.5 x0.5 / 50 = 95W steps.

So you should scale 0 to 3600W in about 38 steps of 95W. Basically until you saturate the inverter. The portal and app mask this somewhat with % and so on but you get the idea.
My 8.2 battery works in 82W steps, the 5.2 in 52W steps.
Multiple packs work as if packs are one so 3x 5.2 packs jump in 156W steps.

I’m probably not best placed for talking about firmware but seeing as the Beta firmware is around the corner everyone’s will be out of date hopefully quite soon.
