Sudden Battery Discharge

Hi, we have had a solar panel and battery installation up and running since early january. Last night we experienced a sudden discharge of all the power in our battery it's a 95 Kw battery and it had about 7Kw stoted when this happened - we went fro 70% to 0% within 5 minutes. anyone any ideas? this happened once before in the early days and i assumed it was linked to the callibration cycle.

How was this resolved? I’ve just had something similar happen here , in the early morning. A drastic loss of storage from the battery in a very short time?

I would also be interested in this issue.
I would also be happy to understand why my dashboard shows power being exported to the grid (at low rate SEGs) when my battery is showing at 0%.
It seems economically unsound to export lowly compensated units to the grid when they could be stored and used later for in-house consumption (which is paid for at a much higher rate).

Sounds like the SOC bug (see the big SOC thread and/or beta thread).

Did it really discharge the electricity, or did it actually not have as much as it thought it did (70% in 5 minutes doesn't sound possible in terms of throughput!).

And as for @timallen sounds like something has gone wrong. Gen2 if you have it seem to fall asleep - maybe a restart from the web portal will kick it into life.

Although if it's at 0% it should have done an emergency charge to 4%. So perhaps a breaker has tripped or the battery isn't happy. Either way I think a call to the installer would be a good start.

Chris64 the system thought it had more left in the battery. It got it wrong.

If you haven’t already, try upgrading to 3012 battery firmware via the web portal, MyInverter page, software tab.

Hello. Just posting here to say people (including myself) are still reporting the sudden SoC drop despite the battery firmware update. You may wish to keep an eye on the other thread on this.

Hello all, new here but I had something like the above happen to my battery this morning. (It's actually happened about 3 time since my system was installed in Feb this year)

As you can see battery (9.5KWh capacity) dropped from 71 to 18% in 30 minutes between 0600 and 0630.

I believe I have batter firmware 3015. Is this anything to worry about? Can I do anything to avoid this from happening again?

My 9.5kWh has done this sometimes. It's losing track of its actual state of charge because it's at 100% for so much of the time at this time of year. At least it thinks it's 100% but if you look at the battery voltage when it's idle it's too low for 100%. It seems to drift lower over the period of a couple of weeks or so if it's not getting significantly (below 50%?) discharged fairly regularly. I've been able to more or less predict when it's going to collapse in a heap by monitoring the pack voltage. I've even provoked it just before our cheap rate time starts by turning on a heavy load! Once it hits 0% and fully recharges it's okay again for a while.
Seems crazy that I can look at the voltage and judge it's nowhere near what it says it is, but the BMS can't! I think if it sits at idle at a low state of charge it will recalibrate using a look up table, trouble is it doesn't reach a low state of charge (it thinks) and is rarely idle (except at 100%).
Firmware is 3015.

SimonP Could you expand on the battery voltage comment? My battery rarely gets to 50% full/empty (only installed a month ago), so what would I be looking at, and what is the calculation to use?

Current battery voltage is displayed on the 'home' screen of the app, or can be selected for display on the web page. This page: https://cleversolarpower.com/lifepo4-voltage-chart/ gives an indication of percentage versus voltage (48v batteries). Bear in mind that our batteries have a buffer top and bottom so the idle 90% voltage of 53.6v is typical for 100% usable and is where mine sits when it's behaving well. When it's getting below 50v it's pretty low.
Ideally these voltages are off load, but if you're only drawing a couple of hundred watts or so they'll only be a tiny bit less.

As an example, mine is currently showing 87%, with a fairly steady draw of 300watts and voltage is 53v. Close enough as a rough estimate.

Just a correction, my firmware is 3012, not 3015 as I said above. I'm reluctant to upgrade in the light of other reported issues on 3015!

Thank you Simon that's really helpful, I'll watch the fully charged voltage and if it starts to drop off, I'll schedule a discharge on a sunny day :-)
