Battery discharge percentage oddness - dual 9.5

I have a Gen 2 Hybrid with dual 9.5 batteries. The below is showing the secondary battery at 0% and the other at 12%. The batteries are idle, presumably the secondary at 0% is enough to stop it discharging to home, which makes sense, and the 6% remaining is just an average of the 2, which makes sense. What doesn't make sense to me is why it's not discharging the remaining 12% of the primary battery.

Is this just a quirk of how 2 batteries are operated? Setup is Eco, timed charge/discharge/export all disabled.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I have seen this too. Check it again in a while and the levels will move.

Are you on the beta firmware?

I have the same situation with 2x5.2kWh batteries, firmware 3009. Also the primary battery values are not updated every 5 minutes as the secondary one...do you notice something similar? I have been in a situation that on the primary battery the values have a 1.5-2 hrs gap between them, but it's not consistent through the day. I' ve seen it even updating every 5-10 mins, especially when system is charging or discharging rapidly (with more than 1 kW). I had a post on this couple of weeks ago https://community.givenergy.cloud/d/1699-battery-data-refresh-rate but didn't get any feedback from anyone else...

Hi

No I've not noticed that. I did query what I was seeing with GivEnergy, who said it was a known software issue and will be addressed in the next firmware. I'm not sure if that software issue means it's a reporting problem, or its reporting correctly but it's a capacity management problem though.

Interesting to note that my 3 x 8.2kw batteries now have a wide diversity - currently showing 27%, 43%, 37%

Not something I watch daily but I'm pretty sure all 3 batteries were within a few percentage points of each other. Seems over last few(?) weeks something has gone wrong. Hopefully if its a firmware issue it will get sorted soon as it matters for efficient filling, discharging, reserve power etc.

Yeah exactly this. I noticed the battery stopped discharging once 1 of them hit 0%, despite power being in the other. I've not checked what happens when 1 hits 100% - whether that stops charging altogether despite the other not at 100%.

lam22 I've had a few tries at getting back into sync by filling & discharging batteries. They never seem to get as close as before and have wide variations with no consistency. At different times it seems different batteries are charging or discharging faster so its not always the same one that's the most full or empty. and appears impossible to get them to a true fill as I think they stop filling once 1(?) of the batteries reaches 100%. In same way as soon as one battery hits 4% they stop discharging I think even if other batteries might be at 10% or more.

Hopefully software will fix and @Givenergy will advise if we need to do anything. I suppose its possible calibration will need running again?

I also see this on 2 x 9.5s. Our gen 1 inverter is due for upgrade to a gen 2 next week after which I'll request to try the beta firmware. I can get the batteries to align after a full charge but they soon diverge again, 15% or more within a day or so.

sponev i'm interested in upgrading to Gen 2 inverter.. partly for better charge/discharge rates as well as increased EPS potential.

Any special suggestions? e.g. did your installer offer a deal or have you sold the Gen 1 separately etc?

lam22 With a pair of 9.5s I've seen the system stop charging when one reached 100%. Overridden with forced charge for 20-30 seconds and returned to 'Play'. No idea what the firmware was at the time.
Current plan is to use Home Assistant to send a notification to the HA app when a battery reports 100% to allow further manual investigation.

Tim Adams We originally ordered gen 2, nearly a year ago now. So this is owed to us by the installer who got us going with gen 1.

naltsta So I was minding my own business this afternoon when a push notification from Home Assistant came in : 'System Battery Full'. I eagerly switched the Eddi to 'Heat' and took a look at the batteries: one was at 100%, the other at 93%. The system appeared to draw power and provide it briefly, as the clouds thickened, while reporting 100%.
My conclusion to date is that there is some 'grey' in the determination of system capacity, and there are misalignments between individual battery readings and system SoC. I've even gone out to look at the battery lights, but they are decorative/reassuring rather than cold analytical.
My instinct says that taking the system close to zero and also close to full helps the overall BMS to wise up as time progresses.

Since starting monitoring states of charge percentage this is what the two batteries and overall System SoC (the middle darker blue line) reveal:

It looks like getting a reported System 100% snaps the batteries back into closer alignment.

I reported the issue as a fault to GE for my 3 x 8.2kw batteries.
e.g. on 31Mar
Primary 14%, Batt1 55%, Batt2 44%

2 Apr
Primary 0%, Batt1 21%, Batt2 7%

Also ignoring Reserve Power setting

GE updated firmware and Reserve Power setting seems to be working now.

GE arranged recalibration twice but issue not resolved and have emailed again today

  1. Batteries have a wide & varying divergence at most times
  2. While charging/discharging aggregate total is different to individual batteries. E.g. this am aggregate 4% and stopped discharging as Reserve 4% but individual show 9%, 12%, 5%
  3. Yesterday aggregate showed 47% but individually
    57% 49% 40%
    ======================

anyone else having any experience of multiple batteries and issues above?
I have asked GE to escalate as it seriously impacts the charging & discharging
