Dual intertor / battery... Is the output combined?

Hi there! Im running just one hybrid 5 invertor and a 9.5kw battery. For the most part it works fine although there's several times when the house peaks over the 2.6kw limit... A hot tub running a 4kw cycle for example. If I was to build out the system with a second invertor and smaller battery... Would I effectively be able to pull at 5.2kw on demand?

Also how does it play with the givenergy cloud system, does it combine the totals or do you have to look independently and add up the figures (no real problem there... Just curious)

Yes you should be able to do that.

Data on the portal might not be accurate until the EMS device is ready. I can't remember if this affects both AC connected and hybrid units - I think both.

Also the units might accidentally cross charge each others batteries (wasting energy) - although I think that's more of a problem for AC connected.

Have a read of the threads that contain the words cross charging (using the search) or EMS to make up your mind.

dreamshock If the second inverter was AC-coupled, you should be absolutely fine. There's no cross-charging between hybrid and AC-coupled because the hybrid won't charge other than from PV or a timed charge and the AC-coupled will only charge to divert export (or a timed charge). The hybrid might overshoot and export when a kettle switches off; this could be seen by the AC3 as export and start charging but the hybrid will reduce output until export is zero, at which point the AC3 should stop charging. Under normal operations, the hybrid will export when there is surplus PV and its battery is charged/charging at max rate; at this point the AC3 will divert all of the export to charge its battery.

FWIW get the biggest battery you can afford or find otherwise (IMO) you'll forever be wishing you'd got just a little more capacity.

If you can afford it possibly worth waiting on the All In One - the assumed higher purchase cost should be mostly offset by a simpler (less costly) installation cost?

Portal shows each inverter and batteries separately as well as combined for the hybrid inverters. Cross charging is a problem with the new gen2 inverters because of AC monitoring in the firmware.
I had two Gen1's previously and they worked fine but the new firmware will also roll out to these, so it'd likely this problem will also affect Gen1's once updated.
EMS hardware solution (when available) or HA GivTCP via a raspberry Pi or similar which apparently runs rather well - reminder to self to do this!
