Charge/discharge rates for 2x5.2kwh batteries with Gen 2 hybrid inverter

Hi

I had been quoted for a hybrid gen 2 inverter 5.0 with 9.5 kwh battery. Now my installer says that they can give me 2 x 5.2kwh batteries instead. I am concerned about the charge/discharge rates between using the 2 5.2 kwh batteries vs 1 x 9.5kwh battery.

Is the charge/discharge rate related to the inverter or the battery?

Trojan00, the maximum charge/discharge rate can be related to either the inverter or batteries depending on the mix.

The HY5-Gen2 can do up to 3600 W for battery charge/discharge, and the 5.2 kWh batteries can do up to 60 Amps each (approx 3000 W) so together will not limit the inverter.

The 5.2 kWh warranty is limited to 52 MWh of charge/discharge cycles, whereas the 9.5 kWh is warranted for Unlimited cycles.

I hung on for the 9.5 kWh battery, as it has the DC MCB built-in at the factory and uses a pre-made cable and connector, so is not subject to the capabilities of the installer to provide the DC MCB in a separate box and also terminate it correctly. At up to 100 Amps, any bad connections are soon found out and lead to overheating problems.

I thought the batteries were 0.5 of capacity e.g. 5.2 kWh is 2.6 kW max charge or discharge?

Or has that changed?

TX200, I just read from a published data sheet for the 5.2 kWh battery that stated 60 A for both charge/discharge.

Two 5.2kW.h batteries will only give you a usable capacity of 8.3kW.h (because the smaller batteries are only 80% DOD, and not 100% DOD). So stick with the single 9.5kW.h battery.

ToothyChris yep, he's not doing any favours with what looks like 10.4 kWh batteries total against the 9.5 kWh because of the 80% depth of discharge.
