Random drop outs - Any advice appreciated please

Hi guys

I've been lurking a while and largely ignored the wealth of data (largely due to poor knowledge about it) from our system commissioned at the end of November 2022.

Watching more recently I've noticed we have a lot of sudden drops in generation and operation of the inverter despite strong sun. It will be cracking along generating and then suddenly drop off to generating single figure watts despite full sun. The inverter goes into idle mode.

I had the installers back yesterday who think it likely a Giv issue rather than installation.

I have the GIV-HY5.0 inverter on D0.906-A0.906 and a Giv 9.6 battery on 3009 firmware. They are attached to 2 strings of 8 JA380W panels.

These energy charts show the drops that often lead to prolonged periods of idle mode. I thought sometimes it was triggered by the house load increase but this is by no means consistent.

Any ideas where I should go next?

I had the same issue, was you solar drop when your battery became full. I have via the tech helpline got my firmware for battery and inverter updated. What you are seeing I believe is a known issue (look at the other thread about battery firmware). I have Gen2 with 9.5 batt and just moved to the following firmware (much better).

Also added old pict prior to up grade and pict now (next to no grid import apart from when I charged between 0030 and 0400 with Oct Go cheap tariff)

JMP I had the same issue with the same Givenergy hardware and firmware. I had the new firmware for both the inverter and battery installed by Paul (theDragon) yesterday and it is looking a lot better today with my best day of generation so far (since February) even though we have had showers and cloudy periods. I am pretty happy with how it performed today and I am looking forward to a full day of sunshine to see how it fairs. My firmware is now D0.996-A0.908 and 4074 for the battery.

Also, take a look at your grid supply voltage - if it rises above 253V, the inverter will "throttle" solar generation. But you should have got a warning message if that was happening.

If it does go above that figure, you will need to talk to your DNO about it.

Hopefully a firmware update will improve it as and when I can arrange that.

I had a quick look at grid voltage and that seems to hover between 241-246
