New install, Gen2 inverter and battery on Octopus agile running “Solar & battery” smart tariff.
The battery behaves in a strange way. It will charge on cheap energy but when it gets to the timed discharge it does not meet home demand, it just dumps all its power back to the grid as if it’s set to full discharge. I’ve tried restoring all the settings, restarting the inverter and also the battery update yesterday. Last night it was either charging on a cheap rate or dumping back to the grid.
What’s going on??

Timed discharge is best used with automation such as Home Assistant or powershell, python etc. search the forum for those terms for more info.
If you don’t want to setup custom automation you may be best to use eco mode with timed charge.
Search the forum for the words timed discharge to see other threads about this topic and the issues you might face with that methodology.
TX200 so is the app just a bit useless then? I thought a predetermined automation provided by the GE app would be a good choice (clearly not).It seems a simple bug in the software where it says discharge is set to meet home demand, but is actually on full discharge to grid.
I’ve reset, applied eco and a timed charge 02:00-04:00 and 75% limit to leave some headroom for PV production.

MP some people say it’s better to use the web portal, they don’t trust the app. Written by two different teams with different terminologies and in the past some of the settings got mixed up between the app and the back end I believe. I assume fixed, but still there is some mistrust of the app as a result.
The battery discharge rate can be controlled, but if you set it to say 1kWh, then someone turns on a kettle, you’ll be using the grid for the difference.
MP I be written a couple of posts on this behaviour. On gen2 my both export and discharge set the battery to full power out within the timed window. The difference is that outside the window timed DISCHARGE is dynamic and acts as Eco. Timed EXPORT outside the window neither charges or discharged the battery.
I am not sure what people expect the inverter/battery to do outside the set window, but that's what it does on gen2.

justpassing I wonder if it should be the other way around
Export (at whatever rate set), then go back to eco makes more sense than discharge then eco / export then do nothing.
Unless there's a use case I've not thought of!
I hear there's new scheduling stuff being written anyway.
Perhaps a couple of extra toggle switches would have been useful, to give more user control

TX200 I think I have a different mental model for this behaviour. Say you set a timed DISCHARGE or EXPORT from 16 till 19 for flux. ON THE GEN2 with release firmware then either mode dumps the battery in the window. Outside the window EXPORT effectively does nothing, meaning any excess PV is exported. So EXPORT exports all PV at all times, and the battery within the window. Results in flat battery, so I also can't see the use case for leaving the inverter in EXPORT unless you basically want to remove battery after 1 day.
Timed DISCHARGE meets house demand and charges, just like the default eco mode, outside the window, and dumps the battery inside the window. That to me is perfect behaviour for flux. ( Although just eco is probably easier and better for your battery ).
Also for me the APP does have all those buttons, and does exactly what I expect it to do. I think the issue is hat gen1 gen2 behaviour is different, and therefore confuses discussions and advice.
Having reread your post above, Gen2 is hard wired to:

What’s strange it the app selects the behaviour when you choose the automation. I think it sets the charge time according to the cheapest rates on Octopus agile at around midnight. It also sets discharge as 4pm to 7am. That’s fine except it is supposed to only do that to meet the house demand, but what it actually does it dump the battery to the grid, which is a different option on the app called full export.
MP sorry missed this post.bwhen you say app sets default times do you mean the android/iOS givenergy app ? I was talking about the android app in my post, and it's default
window times are 0:00 0:00, until you set them.
The underlying givenergy_modbus library for givtcp and givdnergy_local for ha set 4pm to 7am default times, if you don't override them.
justpassing Yes, the ios app. I can't leave it as dynamic discharge (I'm on Octopus Agile at the moment so it's not worth feeding in) without it changing back to scheduled discharge, consumption type "meet home demand" which doesn't meet home demand, just dumps all it's charge as I would expect it to on "full export".
I'm trying again now having reset everything and successfully set it to charge for just 2 hours last night set to eco, but this time using the smart tariff feature of the web portal. Hopefully this will work as expected...
MP OK, same deal with the web portal setup. Last night the battery charged whenever electricity was cheap but every time it stopped charging it switched to full grid discharge. Wake up this morning, battery on 5%
