Firmware update - calibration finished very quickly without full charge.

Firmware update started around 8.40am today. Batteries SOC around 60%
3 x 8.2kw Batteries
Gen1 5kw Hybrid inverter

Appeared to run normally with various lights on/off, clicks etc

Calibration started after around 10 mins from firmware update and immediately SOC was showing as 0% but discharging at 2.6kwh. I would have expected a full discharge to take up to 6 hours (from 60% SOC, 3 batteries)

However 1 hour later automated calibration finished according to app message! SOC shows as 1%

Settings are ECO mode and panels producing around 500w on wet day.

Batteries are continuing to charge from grid - so perhaps the calibration is in fact ongoing?

Seems odd for both discharge and charge. I will leave the system alone on auto to see what happens and report later.

If its true that the batteries are starting from 0% it will take around 9 or 10 hours to fill them. However it seems to me more likely their true starting point is nearer 50% and so may be full in half that time.

Hopefully all well - somewhat puzzled by the calibration discharge from 60% dropping to zero.... and "end of calibration" message at 1%.....but lets see how it settles after charging

just an observation ... charging continues and aggregate SOC shows as 4%
but individual batteries show as:
Primary 12%
Batt1 8%
Batt2 7%

Hopefully the calibration will sort it all out! Will leave system to do its thing...

while writing ... i see charging continues with a small excess from solar (around 300w) but is not charging from grid

do you think calibration needs restarting? or shall I force charge from grid?

Tim Adams OK Its finished.
It will now balance the cells, which looking at yours there quite far apart on 2 of the 3 packs. So they will now balance and the SOC reads 0, as those packs are disconnected while this happens.

Dont be alarmed, there may also be a red LED on 2 of the 3. It will go off in an hour

Yes, I had seen that and was just typing a report... as I had typed it I will add below just fyi. but happy to wait for it to sort itself out.
Interesting to note:

  1. Calibration took only one hour. In theory discharged from 60% to 0%. Calibration then ended with minimal charging.

  2. After remote charging started it only got to under 5% before stopping.

  3. Remote charging restarted. SOC moved from 5% to 25% in approx 1 hour even though max possible is around 10% per hour (3 × 8.2kw batteries at 2.6kwh charge).

  4. After 25% continued to charge at steady rate as expected.

  5. Aggregate SOC saw increasing differential with individual batteries

TheDragon (GivEnergy) status changed swiftly back to green on all packs after about 15 or 20 minutes
SOC now showing as aggregate 100% and 100% individually on all 3 packs. so with luck all is as expected.

I will leave in Eco mode with charge from solar and Discharge dynamic
no other settings to limit charge/discharge etc.

Tim Adams yes, balancing has completed. the cells were way out at top end, so they alarmed. once they settled back down (in old battery speak, absorption charge) they equalise and the BMS reconnects

small observation this morning:
SOC 72% 52.5v 23c
Primary 68% 52.8v 25.1c
Batt1 72% 53.2v 24.1c
Batt2 72% 52.7v 23.5c

perhaps this differential between the 3 packs is normal. I will keep an eye on it over coming days to see how it looks at various levels of charge/discharge. But overall looks better than before anyway

Tim Adams the packs can be different, let it go idle and watch then level in front of your eyes.
New Inverter firmware next, will also set a flag that OCV is complete.
So you can of you read the right register know if its been done or not needed.

HA will get access to all these new registers over time. Even after we encrypt the dongle traffic
