Can anybody tell me why my hybrid 5kw inverter with 8.2 battery (set to mode 1) seems to show it is exporting to the grid today when i have solar generation and the battery is only at 19% SoC?
I would have thought that any time the battery is below 100% any excess generation should go into the battery? I'm just looking at the app home tab view and it says export at 0.9kw, solar generation at 1.3kw, house consumption at 0.4kw. Am I missing something?

AndyKnight The app pulls a snapshot every 5 minutes, so at that moment it was exporting 900w. That could be to simply balance to the grid at that moment. Or is it showing that every 5 minute refresh?
I did some testing with high transient loads over 6 hours and it's was all of 140wh exported to the grid over that time.
3 x washing machine loads, Eddi heating hot water and 10 cycles of the Zappi due to intermittent cloud plus microwave and plenty of kettle stuff.

yandards Yes, my system also copes well with high transient loads and these produce minimal grid import/export. I do, however, have problems with peaks and troughs in PV generation (clouds) on sunny days. Yesterday, for example, at various times my system was exporting 2.2kW, 0.79kW, 0.56kW, 1.7kW and 2.0 kW. It is a bit galling to see at the end of the day that over 1kWh has been exported to the grid while the battery has not reached 100% SOC. This only seems to be a problem when PV generation is relatively high, on less sunny days clouds just result in the normal low level ripple of grid import/export.
THALL I guess the app polling frequency probably makes it looks worse than it actually is. Looks like I exported about 0.5kwh today (which is still energy I would have liked to get into my battery seeing as it's sat on 20% currently).
AndyKnight I don’t really understand why but to me it seems like the grid is a super fast plentiful supply of energy that can be accessed almost instantly. The battery can be used, but it seems like there is a delay in starting either charging or discharge, so the grid is used as a stop gap. My guess is that once we are producing large amounts in the better months the effect will be the same but be dwarfed by production.
I have found transient exporting takes place (on our AC coupled system) when there are large and rapid swings in solar panel output -e.g. clouds passing in front of the sun - the inverter just takes a few seconds to react and restore balance, and if those seconds coincide with a data "poll", then it looks like you are exporting for the whole 5 minutes, which of course you are not.
CARLMW it's not that bad from my own testing in terms of system reaction to load, over 6 hours it was 140wh of import requiring battery support in addition to PV with large transient loads. Test setup was designed to run only from PV and battery (0900 start on a day with decent generation). I haven't measured equivalent export in the same way as yet but that's more complex as the Myenergi side doesn't talk directly to the GE side for the Zappi and Eddi use - therefore I would expect it to lag a touch resulting in more export.
You can see that clearly on the myenegi app as well but even that has 5 second polling rates so can snapshot a bad point.
I've confirmed this by looking at the Octopus 30 min consumption data on my bills as ultimately what we get billed for is what really matters.

I can see that on a cloudy day I am still exporting to grid. Not much, 100-140w, but as battery is at 37% I would rather that goes there than to grid.
BTW the figure is confirmed by smart meter and app
