Sustained home consumption during battery charging - odd behaviour

Hello,

We had our system installed this month (May), a 5kW Hybrid inverter and 2x9.5kWh batteries. We've new to all of this and have been experimenting with how to make the most of the solar generation, but have hit what seems an odd issue and wanted to see if this is normal behaviour.

We're getting lots of generation from our 5kW south facing array, charging the batteries up to 100% most days which run the house happily through the night and into the next generation window, so far so good. We cook with electric so peak loads tend to be around meal times and the system seems to cope just fine, very little imported power since it was all installed.

However, over the really sunny period this week, I tried loading things up in the early afternoon to make the most of the generation and hit problems. With generation in excess of 4 kW and batteries on 60%+ charge, we've loaded up the house to around 3kW for several hours and noticed that we're importing from the grid to meet the demand??

I'm still learning to interpret/understand the graphs but it seems that the solar generation is going to charge the battery, rather than prioritising the house load? Battery charge mode is set to solar only, discharge to dynamic on the app.

I tried throttling the charge power of the battery so more of the generation would be available to the house and the charge rate did drop but so did the generation!? Increase the charge power and the generation went up!?

I tried a scheduled discharge for the afternoon but the battery just kept charging! It would seem nothing can stop the battery from hogging the generation so the house will have to fend for itself until the battery has had it's fill. This can't be right, can it?

Arron from the web portal, what is your inverter firmware version? Might as well include battery firmware version too please.

Hi Dom66 yes good point, sorry. Inverter is a gen.2 GIV-HY5.0 with inverter firmware D0.906-A0.906 and battery firmware is 3012.

Arron you need latest inverter firmware v909 - it is fabulous… fixed all my problems…

Happy to report v909 inverter firmware appears to have fixed our issues, now seeing generation curves much improved, lots of export in the afternoons rather than generation ramping down and it's handling sustained loads in the afternoon exactly as expected now:
