Inverter temperature - warmer weather?

What is everyone seeing with their inverter running temps on warmer days please? Our gear is in a garage joined to the house and we were seeing around 62 deg C with the inverter under full load (gen 2).

I've installed a couple of PC fans controlled with a thermocouple and now see max 52 degrees, so approx 10 deg reduction. This is with the fan running on "medium" but it could be ramped to "max" if needed.

Giv support said throttling would start around 60 deg, so I guess running in the low 50s is OK? Or should we ramp the fans up and try to bring it lower? What's everyone else running at please? Cheers.

sponev Gen2 3.6 has peaked at about 48 over the last week or so when running mostly flat out (>3kW for export), is in the loft which has been peaking between 30 and 35 degrees. I have no additional cooling on it currently but carefully monitoring to see if I need to add any.

Phil_H Interesting, lower than we see and our ambient is a lot lower too. How are you reading the inverter temp please? We're using a third-party Android app. Our batteries are peaking around 30 degrees which we see in the GE app, but the inverter is considerably warmer as you'd expect. Like you, peak is under full export load (Flux) when we enable it.

sponev Taking the temperature off GivTCP on HA. Battery temperature (read the same way) spikes similarly under heavy charge/discharge (over 40 in cases) but drops back to generally track ambient when use is lighter.

Phil_H Thanks Phil, hopefully we'll get a few more posts to compare - you seem to be running a lot lower on the same piece of kit in a warmer environment which is a bit baffling.

Just checked the portal and the third party app is showing temps 4 or 5 degs higher than the portal value. I'm wondering if it's looking at the battery BMS rather than the inverter temp. Hmmm. The thermocouple we have mounted on the inverter fins is also lower so I'm guessing the app value may be misleading. However, if it is the BMS temp, handy to know.

The Android app shows the Heatsink Temperature, which should match Tinv on the portal.

Right now my inverter is running flat out and showing 50.2C, but my inverter is only a 3.6kW Gen 1.

Rubikcube Thanks for clarifying, appreciated. I'll do some comparisons and set the fans up accordingly. I think I see a discrepancy of around 4 - 5 deg in the portal vs the app but I'll check again as I may be looking at the wrong values. There also seems to be quite a marked temp delta across the heatsink with the left side (facing) warmer than the right.

Gen1 3.6. Situated indoors 1st floor landing. Currently peaking at about 51 degrees, room temperature about 21. It has been above 50 degrees from 12 til 3 today covering peak generation and battery charging (typically 1100s watt charging + 3600 watts export/house load).
At night the inverter temperature is 34 degrees, up a few degrees from last month.

I'm not too worried about the temperatures yet, as long as no one opens a window or curtains the house will stay nice and cool, but it is our first year with solar so we may find the extra heat from the inverter to be a problem.

SJB Thanks for that. Based on the portal, I'm seeing very similar uncooled and then around 8-10 deg lower with the fans set on medium speed.

positor1 my fan control operates using reported inverter temperature but requires HA and MQTT. Your solution would give good control without having to have all the home automation gubbins, making it suitable for anyone.

positor1 I'm not but I quite like it. I'm just using an on/off set up based on temp set points. Works well enough and not sure it justifies variable speed. But looks cheap enough to experiment.

I use two cheap USB powered PC fans sat on top of the inverter. No need to overcomplicate things with automation and HA. Mine have been running 24/7 for over a year. Two fans cost less than one of those controllers.
