i am getting GE system installed and installer has quoted me for Giv-HY5.0 V2 + Giv-Bat8.2, and when i asked for 9.5G2, he mentioned that it will be £500 more (approx). Now i am very confused if i should pay up and get the 9.5G2 or 8.2 is good enough. Any recommendations ?

Think the biggest question is, Do you need the extra 1.3kw? Specs are very simular from what i can remeber, But take a look at the data sheets and see if the £500 is worth it to you.

It really all depends on your requirements. For me, it was all about ensuring overnight off grid. So I went for 8.2 as it was enough and better value than 9.5 - but perhaps more importantly there now is a gen 3 inverter you should ask about.

Regularly top 2.6kW using say a kettle or oven so I’d go with a higher output inverter.

If the g2 is 500 more then ask what the g3 would cost, which should be similar.

Every time you’re going over 2.5kW use you’re pulling from the grid and costing yourself money.

If you draw 1kWh extra a day (3.6-2.6 for 1hour), then that’s 33p a day and that happens 300 days a year, it’s £100 a year.

Of course it’s more complicated as the inverter will add solar in the summer, but in the winter or on cloudy days you’ll be limited. On batteries only you’d be more limited.

October to March is the period you'll see the biggest benefit of having a larger battery. Arguably you could gain 1.3kW per day at the cheapest tariff you have (or free on odd days if from solar) during that period
If you are on one of the Octopus feed in tariffs it could give you an extra 1.3kW to export each day where you export.

thewhalw21 that's exactly my thoughts, is it even worth the extra 1KWh and i dont have the experience to figure out what difference will that extra make and how do i calculate the effect?

deepanshus Are you able to view your current daily ussage with your Electric provider? If your plan for the battery is to just get you through the night i'd say 8.2 should be enough for most people. But if you're wanting to charge the battery at off peak, IE octopus go, Then you may want the 9.2 just to see you through till the next off peak period.

The biggest question is, what are you trying to do with the battery 🙂

got a lot of clarity after all the replies. I realised, extra 1.3KWH battery mean my consumption during non-solar producing hours should be 9.5KWh for it to be beneficial otherwise i am just storing extra energy with no returns. So i am sticking to the 8.2KWH battery provided. Thanks to all !
