Why is PV sent to battery when house is importing from grid?

At various times we seem to be doing grid import AND charging the battery. I can't see how this makes sense.

These are 5 minute snapshots from a point in time, but not necessarily at the exact same time. What do you have on the live view in the app?

Same thing, and IHD also shows import.

When you say 'snapshots' are they 'spot' readings every 5 minutes, or are they an average over the entire five minute period?

rjp they’re spot readings

We occasionally see the same thing but they only add to a very few kWh on the meter column in the inverter tab, so a few pence

rjp My guess is the system was charging the battery with excess solar PV when the house load increased a bit. This increase will come from the grid until the inverter spots it and can rearrange things to supply from solar or battery.

I don’t suppose you have a solar hot water diverter? We have one and on a day where the su is in and out of the clouds I sometimes see the inverter fighting with the how water, I was sure because the two systems are independent.
