My espresso machine has a PID controller rather than a regular thermostat to control the boiler temperature. This means it's switching the (1kW) boiler heater on/off around once per second as it warms up.

This generally confuses the inverter, as by the time it's noticed the load increase via the CT clamp and told the battery to supply more, the load has gone away so the battery power goes to the grid instead.

I suspect this is just 'one of those things', but interesting to see the live data in the app getting rather confused when the coffee machine is on!

I'd worry more why a domestic coffee machine requires a three term controller. I'd love to see what derivative setting it has!

Google "espresso PID" and you'll see it's a (rather coffee-geeky) thing.

I've got a De'Longhi Magnifica bean to cup machine and not noticed any issues... But mine isn't left on so only heats water when you turn it on and prepare however many espressos you want, and then when you want to steam the milk.

It normally draws the excess power from the grid simply because it's early in the day and we've probably not put any charge into the battery to draw from and not generating enough excess solar other than enough to power the house.... as it's usually 8am or earlier.
