I've now tried 3 times to update the batteries. The update starts then 30 minutes later fails each time. Is there a trick I need to get it to work. I normally stop watching at "validating update 90%" so it fails after this.
Gen 1 3kw inverter and 3x 2.6kwh batteries.

I had the same problem - I had to remove the covers of the batteries (after following the power down procedure), remove the USB memory stick, delete any files on it and then upload a file from GivEnergy.

Back up the battery usb before deleting the files, just in case!
Also if you have any automation connected direct to your inverter, pause it or reduce the frequency it connects as it can cause issues during firmware updates. Likewise if you have the GE app, close that or at least come out of local mode whilst updating.
I think simply deleting any files on the USB and reinserting may allow the update to work OK from the portal. Ensure you power down the batteries before removing the cover.
After you’ve deleted all the files on the usb, you should be able to put it back, close the case, turn the battery back on, then complete the firmware update from the website again.
You shouldn’t need to contact GE to get a copy of the files or start a calibration if the website update method works after deleting the files on the usb.
NB. If there’s no usb in there, use any small USB except sandisk makes. Apparently they cause the BMS to lock up!
If the usb is stuck into the slot with some red? wax, good luck getting the wax off. 😄
Just one thought when I had to do a manual update of the batteries, I found that the USB sticks in the battery circuit board had been "glued" in and I had to cut through the silicon/glue to remove them. I was told by Givernergy that the later batteries are like this.
@killythebid I was attempting to do this when I found my USB sticks have been fixed in place with some sort of resin too. Is there a good way of removing it? The USB sticks are firmly stuck in place at the moment
hybridnotts I cut around the USB with a sharp blade/Stanley knife carefully just where the base of the USB socket the stick goes into.
I peeled the corner of the red plastic with a stanley knife then pulled it off in one go, the other methods were very time consuming!
No files on the first USB but ZH01.BIN and ZH02.bin on the first and second. I've deleted them and I'll stick them back in and try an update. I've also requested the 3012 files from givenergy.
As some feedback I've been running this for a while now. Seems to do as promised - I've not been caught short anyway (although summer is an easy win normally, interested to see how it pans out as it gets darker)
The activity log is a nice touch so you can see why it's making the choices it does.

Fraser from Givenergy started the calibration (frustratingly not in my off-peak period). I had to put 3012 onto each USB in the end and they started the update process when powered up. The battery symbol on the dashboard didn't show any power flows while the update happened (took quite a while and there were no notifications in the notification centre). Fraser logged in and checked that they had all updated then offered to start the calibration remotely. The whole process was a bit of a shag but Fraser was excellent and his comms were almost immediate. I rate Givenergy customer service 100% on this limited contact - well done Fraser.
However, Fraser was only required because the OTA update didn't work!!!!!
Givenergy know the OTA update sometimes doesn't work yet they still glue the USB sticks in place- idiots!
They glue them in because installers were loosing them. Or perhaps pinching them. Hopefully the former in most cases.
TX200 found mine in the pile of sweepings after install (They used to just come rolling around in a bag in the box and get binned.)
