Few months ago I remember seeing something here about imminent firmware update for Gen1 HY inverters that were supposed to improve the reaction time and work better with the new BMS.
Any news on that?

What version of Gen1?
We have a finite pool of resources to code firmware, priorities are set. However All the hybrid and AC FW are having final minor and i mean minor tweaks to them.
Gen2 is already issued as version 911, 2 more since the big push on 909. However due to the security fixs in it, teh App is broke and needs a patch too. Which is now done and in validation
Same for Gen3 303 now 305
Gen1 and AC are still under beta numbering
But Im now happy with their operation so will be setting these into production next week. Ready for a big push
Also a minor tweaked BMS.
So my FW teams have ben busy for sure

What is happening for an inverter with serial number SD2148G069, it seems to have gone a bit quite on these ones . It’s not even been installed a year yet to be obsolete.

Likewise, any further info would be appreciated on firmware update for earlier serial numbers, SA2144G073 on firmware DO.450 - AO.499.

There was some mention on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZrdVKFX4gI a few days ago. Doesn't tell us anything new and I don't think we'll see a roll out of anything to pre-2210 inverters 🙁.

It was a bit inconsistent about upgrades to gen 1. Said early on that Gen 1’s were getting 10 slots “in the portal the same way as Home Assistant already does it”, by which I take it that you can define 10 slots in the portal but only 1 is loaded onto the inverter at any one point in time and only when its due.
But later on he talked about there being a test that could be run on the Gen 1 to determine whether it could run new firmware and early gen 1’s would fail if they were accidentally upgraded.
He did say that there would be no new features developed for Gen 1’s but they would be supported for security fixes etc.
I’ve got Gen 1’s, fortunately week 37 of 2022 so the newer ones, but they were only installed in January last year and a bit annoying that they are already out of support.

Yeah, rather annoying for osmething comparitively recently installed to be out of support... Gen1 installed late '22, its not 'old' really.
Not trying to justify either way but the Gen 1 design was done / sold way back in 2016 (if not even slightly earlier, it gets a bit blurry after that) so although it was "new" to you it's actually a pretty old piece of kit.

Got mine April 23 and they are still for sale so I will expect some sort of support

Might be true, but with the post-Covid supply chain issues there were hardly any Gen 2's in stock in late 22 and early 23 and there are definitely people on this forum that gave up waiting for a Gen 2 and had a Gen 1 installed instead as that was all that the installers had available.
So it was still a current live and sold product only just over a year ago.
It is what it is, I'm not massively bothered about new features like extra charging slots, I just want it to work reliably.
Does make me wonder whether it will be excluded from the CEMS though. All the talk seemed to be of Gen 3's and AIO's

I know you can still buy them, and they've said that it'll have support for security updates and so on, just not new features - so it'll be pretty much what you get out of the box until it stops working.
I do actually have all the register lists and I'm not entirely sure why they can't fit atleast the 2 slots in rather than the 10 (there is register / memory space for that) but it is what it is.

So theyre using the MS Windows model for inverters. This is whats wrong with the world. If they can improve their devices with firmware then its their duty to do it.

hoggy Thats why it kinda feels like (for those of us who just got them new 'recently') that there was a 'rush of new devices' then... cos they weren't really new, just continue to be manufactured. Shame really, what I know now about solar / power use / blah blah, I would def have pushed for a newer / higher rating device if I'd known. 3.6 covers most but a 5kwh would have been better for those peak's.

TimI yeah that's definitely true, how much more we know now.
I'm lucky my Gen 1 hybrids are 5kW hybrids and I have two of them which does mean that when they both discharge at full rate I can cover peaks in house load and I don't get much/any solar clipping. This morning the front (East) array was generating 4kW and the second (split East/West) a further 1.7Kw. Exporting 5.6kW!
Today's consumption bill minus £2.10.
Whilst the Gen 1's play well together, sharing the house load, I believe Gen 2's and 3's don't so at least I got that bit right.
They do sometimes have a mind of their own though, especially when force charging or force discharging when they just don't both work together. One will charge and the other will Idle. Sometimes they work together, but quite a bit of the time they just don't. I've sent an email to givenergy support as it was quite annoying that one wouldn't discharge in the recent saving session event.

Or fixing overvoltage errors introduced by shonky battery firmware - like they've done for G2 & G3 inverters!
Still that's on GE when batteries need replacing well before warranty runs out.....
