Hi all
I've just had Gen 3 inverter, 9.5kWh battery and 6.4kW PV array installed the other week.

Last night I set a timed charge, with a limit of 40%, but instead of stopping at 40% it charged to 100%

Anyone else had this issue?

Hi Jonathan. Yes we had the same problem the other day. Set to charge up to 50% and it charged to 100%. We don't know why either. Anyone out there have any solutions?

Sometimes the Enable AC Charge Upper % Limit gets silently switched off (eg: if you ever ask for 100% charge).
Try this:
Portal -> My Inverter -> Remote Control (Gear Cog) -> Re-read Enable AC Charge Upper % Limit (round arrow). Does it now show off? Turn it on!

Other things that can cause this are

A tariff card added to the homepage of the web portal which has tariff automation enabled

Setting up automation such as GivTCP and not switching off smart target (or not configuring the values as preferred).

You'd probably know if you did either of these, but the tariff card has caught a few people out.

Also if the battery was fuller than the system thought it was, it might immediately jump from a certain percentage to 100% (see SOC bug thread) - that should be easy to spot on a battery graph.

TX200 I have this issue with one of my three AC3.0 inverters. I updated the firmware from 3009 to 3012. The battery on the power graph went vertically to 100% after calibration completed notification. 50% charge is the limit set on Enabled Charge. Will this be a firmware update consequence or is there something else?

Dougal it could be the calibration realising the battery was almost full. Given a calibration goes past what it though was 100% full.

Keep an eye on it for a few days perhaps.

I think 3012 only adjusts the SoC when it's idle and under 50% - a later version will do the adjustment if the battery is idle and under 80% full. There are other adjustments in play too, but this change was made because people were enjoying sunny weather so not often getting under 50% full.

There could of course be an issue with the battery cells itself. The SoC corrections might make a hardware fault more obvious. So if you're concerned ask giv Support to take a look once you have a few days running on the new firmware.

So, after changing everything recommended, and also actually removing the smart tariff altogether, nothing I do makes my battery respect the % charge limit, it's still charging to 100% every night. 😢

Have you tried a reset to defaults from the web portal, MyInverter page, settings?

Once that’s done, make sure eco is still on and reset up any timed charge requirements you have.

If there is some automation somewhere, GivTCP, Octopus r&d or something else, perhaps resetting your GivEnergy API key from the account settings, account security, would break whatever is connecting and changing things.

I now have exactly the same. Upgraded from a gen 1 to a gen 3 inverter and now it charges the battery to 100% every night.

I have reset to defaults, checked for any tariff settings etc. and all is correct so it "should" be working.

Eco mode is on
Timed Charge is on 00:30 to 04:30 for Octopus Go
AC Charge Upper Percent Limit is on
Limit set to 50%

But none of this makes any difference - it worked fine on the gen 1 - any ideas?

markgw Don't know why but a work around would be to reduce your charge rate so that it just reaches 50% after the 4 hour period. Not a solution but a way to get what you want while you do get a resolution.

markgw may be best to web chat or call GivEnergy support. Perhaps there's something not quite right with your inverters settings - they can reset more things their end than the customer reset to defaults option can.

Or perhaps your installer hasn't properly configured the portal and you're still controlling the old one? (Unlikely, but who knows!!)

Unfortunately nothing has made mine work, my installer has referred to GE, I'll post when I have anything to report.

Luckily I screengrabbed the portal before - I can see the inverter ID is different etc. so I will see what they say

FYI for anyone following this, my installer has now had it confirmed by GE that this is a known firmware issue that they're working on

I reduce my charge rate when setting the charge from grid, mainly so battery doesn't discharge to charge the car during the scheduled time 0030-0430 of charging the battery to co-incide with Go tariff..

had the opposite problem last night (9.5kwh batter, AC3.0 inverter) - have it set to 'timed charge' for my octopus hours and 20% which normally isn't hit during summer but yesterday we used a lot. Woke up this morning and battery had hit 5% and used a bit of grid to stay there (I think still off peak) before starting to charge.

so it ignored the timed charge 'safety net' setting?

TX200 I have tariff card but under automation it just has two buttons 'standard' or 'stop automation'. It doesn't say anything about what the current state is. Does that mean I don't have one running? maybe just remove the card just in case
I did have GivTCP but didn't set any smart target and think the default was 'off'. Since deleted and using givenergy local integration again only showing sensor values.
