Battery charger issue

So this is an odd one that started yesterday…

Battery told to charge via the grid, it charges to 20% then stops despite the limit set much higher. Once the battery falls back to 19% the grid charges back to 20% and stops again.

Now the sun has come out the battery is continuing to charge via solar above 20% but if I instruct it to charge from the grid it stops the battery completely and the solar gets diverted to the grid.

It was working fine the last time I tried to do this.
The only thing I can think of that may have changed since I last needed to charge the battery is the inverter firmware updated sometime in the last couple of weeks as I can see the version has changed.

I’ve tried adjusting all the settings in the web ui as well as rebooting the inverter and fully power cycling the whole system via the physical power switches and cut offs. No difference.

Yep, pretty sure that's a known bug. The 20% gives it away.

Email or web chat or call GivSupport.

Think they need to reset some registers or something.

Yep that seems to have been the case.

Called the Givenergy support number and got straight through to someone. He made a couple of changes to settings we can’t access, rebooted my inverter and now all sorted.

Great to have someone able to look at it so quickly especially on a Saturday and resolve it straight away. But a little disappointing the firmware update seemed to cause it without triggering any alert for me or them.

Lagerstars I remember seeing it being discussed on here - they were thinking which registers can they safely reset as part of the firmware process.

E.g. catch as many of these types of issues as possible vs. breaking more devices than were broken by this issue.

Complicated, but these things happen when changes are made at a fast pace.

For many months everyone was moaning about various issues, the main one being sudden drop in battery percentages (soc drop).

They've made some big improvements with this since Paul has been on board, not 100% fixed, but I think much better for the majority. They've also fixed a number of inverter firmware bugs and the beta testers have been through multiple versions of beta software (perhaps up to five versions this year alone?).

It's a fine balance between perfection and good enough. Perfection takes longer. Good enough makes most people happy, but can cause a support overhead with known bugs.

Maybe what is needed is automation to monitor for such known bugs and resolve the issue automatically. Not always easy to do that though.
