Battery discharge at night

Hello
My battery discharges every night, I had 70% battery last night, by 7am its at 4%, with no considerable energy being used in the house. I have no discharge settings on, so its set to Eco mode on my inverter. Is there anyway of detecting what generation of inverter I have, I was told my install would be a gen 2. The model number says GIV-HY3.6

Blackberry OK, it would help with a bit more information such as what battery you have, an image of your power flows graph for the overnight period and what settings and/or automations you have configured.. On the face of it you might be exporting when you don't want to but equally if you have only a 5.2 battery, 66% discharge is only 3.4kwh and well within what I would expect to use overnight and that's ignoring the conversion efficiency and assumming the batteries are charging fully within their design specifications.

Hi thanks for your reply, I have a 9.5KW battery that I've discovered is a Gen2 and a generation 1 inverter, (which should be a Gen2)

Blackberry This looks OK to me - There's no export and the battery use is in line with the loads shown. You say there's 'no considerable energy being used' overnight but the graphs show the battery needing to meet pretty steady demand of 500 - 700w. 8 hours at 600w is 4.8kw i.e more than half your battery (without conversion losses).

Thanks cluelesscris for looking at that for me, I will keep an eye on it. I'm trying to get my head around how these systems work, it seems the software options are quite buggy and don't seem to do what you think, ie. I would like to restrict the use of the battery overnight and keep it for the next day incase of bad weather, but I can't seem to get that to happen, I have to keep the inverter in Eco mode from what I can gather.

Blackberry If you think about it using battery overnight is the same as during the day - unless that overnight period is on a lower tariff. By restricting battery usage in the way you want gains you nothing. Your graph suggests you do not have a split tariff (or at least you are not taking advantage of it). If you do have an overnight lower tariff then you can set a timed charge for that period and the battery will charge from low cost tariff and your house load will also use low cost tariff at thee same time. In any case you can limit the discharge from battery by setting the discharge power to zero when you want that. This is better done through automation or you'll forwever be doing lots of manual changes. There's a number of automation options available but Home Assistant and givTCP combination is the most popular. Search you tube/google and look for videos by 'speaktothgeek' for how this is achieved. But, as I said, unless I am missing something your desire to limit battery use overnight gains you nothing.

Blackberry I meant was it a 5kw inverter. We received paperwork saying it was a gen2 but apparently that was a mistake! You have a 9.5 battery so if you have a 5kw inverter it might be reasonable to expect a similar usage/performance unless you do something strange in your house!

Blackberry An while I am thinking about it, why not have a look at what it is you are using overnight. I have a 4 bed house, 4 adults (yes, the kids are back! 😥 ) and our overnight usage is 150-350w - half yours. Is there something you are running that you don't really need? Or, perhaps a device that's not as efficient as it should be.

cluelesscris we have-I think- a similar system and don’t charge from the grid at all at the moment or use any from the grid except to charge the car on Octopus Intelligent. We export some and heat the hot water but it never drops below 40% overnight and was 100% by 9am today so unless Blackberry does something different or has much less panels (we have 6.48 east west) he should be in the same sort of area

I was worried about my parasitic drain. so I went round the house and did a spreadsheet of electrical component I could find and what they did overnight.
With fridge, freezer, little pump in pond, smoke detectors, router, we-fi extenders, TVs on standby, CCTV cameras, NAS box, electric alarm clock, skybox etc, I got to circa 500w (difficult to get all the exact data)
