3013 should I?

I have a gen 1 5kw and gen 2 9.5kw. Simple question- everything is working fine so should I update to 3013 or just leave it for a while?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it - as the old saying goes! The new firmware updates the state of charge problems people were facing, where there were sudden drops to 0 or climbs to 100%. If you are not suffering those issues, I don't think there's much more in the update. There's also the issue and possible of recalibration when you do the update yourself, whereas because I had issues when I did it, GE support did it remotely, and it didn't need to recalibrate.
The choice is yours! 😱

Problem is you only really hear the people who have problems. My normal way of behaving would be to update straight away - used to a Tesla now. Seems a bit strange to update everyone if it’s only fixing the soc issue?

It's worth updating periodically but I do like to work on an n - 1 philosophy, so staying an update or so behind.

I think being reasonably up to date is a good idea, it means you don't have to do a huge update all in one go down the line.

That said, I may wait a bit on 3013 myself, if people don't report issues, then I'll look at flipping the switch 🙂

LordHippos I think I agree and will wait a bit

SimonClarke I called support this week and asked them to do the update to 3013 for our batteries from their end manually. Doing that meant that a calibration didn't take place. I suspect it did, but they stopped it before it got going. I had left it a while since the update firmware button appeared and there doesn't seem to be much negativity about it from people who weren't already having issues.

I’ll give it another week or so then think about it. Rather a lot on at the moment so I’d rather not add any more possible stress, especially when it’s working perfectly at the moment.

SimonClarke You can view what the 3013v addresses in the knowledge base archives.

Here

If it or any previous firmware versions not yet applied do not address any issues you are having or add any features you need then you can just leave it for now if you wish.

killythebid not sure that helps as I don’t think I understand it! As I said I have no issues to fix so I’ll hang fire

my system was also working fine but I updated and it was interesting that the calibration discharge got down to 22% and then dropped to 0% before charging up again the correct amount to 100% so the SOC was obviously reading incorrectly so hopefully the update will fix that.

spawneydave When a calibration starts the inverter reports the SoC as 0% whilst it's fully discharging and then as upgraded the % increases. This happened on both the inverter upgrade and now this battery software upgrade.

Having said that, I uograded one of my batteries yesterday to 3013 and even though the SoC was 4% when I started the upgrade it spent ages discharging so I guess the SoC was under-stated.

Upgrade went seamlessly for me and I did it on a sunny day so the full charge was all done off solar

If it helps with your decision I am seeing this about once a week under 3013.

Going to become a major issue as solar generation drops off going into the autumn. Battery will stop discharging when it thinks it has hit reserve, even though it actually has plenty of charge left. Bottom end OCV adjustment only corrects back up to 16%, which is still way less than the actual state of charge.

S
#13 SimonClarke

Woodstock if it doesn’t read right how do you know that it has more charge left?

#14 Woodstock

SimonClarke Because you get a displayed SOC% jump to 100% the next time the battery approaches full. This indicates that the displayed SOC was under reading and there was more charge in the battery than was being reported.
In addition the total kWh discharge/charge from the previous 100% checkpoint does not tally with the displayed SOC%.

I was debating the same, Gen 1 5kw and 9.5kw battery, just had a power cut and it appears the decision has been made for me, as it has now updated the firmware to 3013 without my intervention.

S
#16 SimonClarke

Gust is it supposed to do that?

G
#17 Gust

I don’t believe it should, but hey I am no expert.

SimonClarke I've not bothered for the same reason mentioned by @TimHutchings.

Mine is completely fine on 3012 so I won't be upgrading it unless it changes.

For me the 3012 seems to be better.
I have worsened SoC's tracking after the new firmware and calibration.

It would be nice, if GE bought a check box or button to skip calibration when upgrading firmware.

@Woodstock I think we are going around in circles.

S
#20 SimonClarke

The more I read the less likely I am to do this!

G
#21 Gust

Well it has been 4 days now, I have to say I haven’t had any problems up to now.

#22 Woodstock

ispookie666 Mitigated one problem and introduced a new one with very similar consequences is the way I perceive it on my system. 😞

#23 Hook

Just out of interest is it possible to downgrade firmware?

T
#24 TX200

Hook

If you were given the firmware to apply via USB and still have it, I guess yes.

Otherwise GE would have to be asked. I guess it Beta via Paul otherwise support web chat or email?

#25 Hook

I called Giv support today and got them to downgrade me to 3012. No issues and no calibration required.

Z
#26 Zakalwe

I had to speak to GE suupprt and they, unprompted, recommended that they changed my firmware from 3013. I'm now on 3068.
3013 increasingly looks like a dog

Zakalwe No issues here that I can detect. But as I've said before, my battery tends to go from flat to full regularly and rarely holds a charge to the next day.

Z
#28 Zakalwe

I rang for something unrelated to the battery firmware. They said that they wanted to move it off 3013.

#29 Hook

Zakalwe is 3068 a beta?

T
#30 TX200

Hook with a number that high, I'd suspect so.

Z
#31 Zakalwe

Hook

No idea.
I was told that they'd have to revert to an earlier version and that I'd probably end up on 3012.
3013 worked OK ish for me...no worse or better than 3012. The reason why I had to speak to them was that the system wasn't recovering from me manually changing from Eco to Export and back...it was hanging, needing rebooting and then last night the system ignore a Timed Charge and ended up flattening both batteries (the car was charged last night and the inverter dumped all the charge into the car instead of doing the Timed Charge}.

Z
#32 Zakalwe

3068 is officially a steaming turd of a thing....
The Timed Charge that was supposed to run from 23:30 to 05:30 hit 95% at 01:45, stayed there for 10 minutes then crashed to 43%. It stayed there for 2 hours then jumped to 67% where it remained for the rest of the night with no extra charge taken on.

FFS, all I want is a system that will overnight charge to 100%, then for 4 hours during the day dump 50% of the charge back to the grid and then charge again at night. Is that so hard for these jokers???

I've been trying to keep up to date with peoples experience on this before hitting the button. Interestingly I now don't have the option for an update. Can only assume they are working on a better upgrade and will subsequently release that.

MarkyG82

They've been working for over 2 years to try and fix their abysmal firmware. They aint fixed it yet.

L
#35 LordHippos

Have they pulled .3013?

I'm on 3012, and I'm sure at some point I was able to upgrade my self to .3013, I didn't at the time because .3012 was working OK.

I no longer have the option to upgrade my self to .3013 in the portal.

G1 Hybrid 5.0 inverter here.

#36 hoggy

Yeah it was bricking batteries forcing engineer visits.

S
#37 SteveCook

I was on 3012 and timed discharge and back to Eco was working.
I went to 3013 and it stopped so I went to Home Assistant.
I then thought about adding another battery and GivEnergy told me to go back to 3012 as it was more stable.
They sent me 3012 and it install was really simple - hardest thing was cutting the glue holding the USB stick in the inverter.
3012 working fine
I have stayed with HA though

I never did…..
