I note that a wired LAN connection is an option. I would have preferred that. My 3.6 has got an RJ45 socket, but there's no one at home behind it.
I also see that the EPS switchover seems to be 10mS. That makes it suitable for computer UPS usage.

1kW boost from battery is a welcome addition but don't think i'll be upgrading anytime soon just for that.
Curious if the Datasheet has some Typos as the max 3.6kW discharge rates 65A/81A doesn't tally with the nominal voltages which surely must still be 51.2V if you can mix and match still? (65A is too low for 3.6kW and 81A is technically a whole 1A more than the new 9.5 Battery is rated for if you just had that on it's own)
Unless it's just badly conveying it can charge multiple batteries at shared 4KW on the Hybrid 5?
That took a very different route to what I had heard from various people and installers.
Can’t say I regret not waiting, as whilst 3.6kW max is a good boost it’s still quite a way behind the other options I had on the cards.
THALL you've got to assume it's coming at some point as if they have dropped the dongles etc then standardised production across the range is cost effective.
I'm assuming the Wifi side is on board looking at the antenna, glad ethernet is now an option as it'll mitigate any WiFi protocol faff that could come up.
3.6kw from battery alone is a much better figure as that'll cover most households background load whilst boiling a kettle unlike the current 2.6kw limit (assuming battery only).
Assuming it's a similar price to the current HY5.0 ( plus the rampant inflation) then it's still cheaper to fit 2 x HY5.0 V2s and 2 x 9.6kwh batteries for 7.2kw of battery support and 19.2kwh of storage for around the cost of a single Powerwall 2.
Bit of shame the PV side hasn't seen an increase but I guess they expect 5kwp arrays upwards to have 2 inverters.

yandards Not sure how many people would have a single solar system bigger than 6500w. Though I guess as more people get EV's then people might want more wattage at home for self charging. Which is exactly what I am doing... So yeah makes perfect sense. What I am thinking for my own system going forward is in a year or so getting whatever new AC inverter there is and the 9.5 battery making those the primary and then link my AC3 and 8.2kw as secondary. Maybe. Depending on if they work together, how reliable the setup will be, cost.
Do I read correctly that the Giv-HY 5.0 will do 5kW AC charge/discharge from the battery? Or will that be based on a combination of Sola and AC charge? Also does anyone know if you can link 2 of these units in plant mode?

Kryten Nope, its 3.6kw charge discharge to the battery.
Kryten We've got two 5kW hybrids, each with it's own PV and battery. The ac sides are connected to a "solar" consumer unit and that is connected through the MCS solar meter to the main house consumer unit. That means we can feed up to 5kW house load from the two battery/inverters, but only 2.5kW each. When the batteries are fully charged and there's enough sunshine, we can feed up to 10kW house load (7.2kW on the Zappi) with an export limit of 3.68kW if the house load isn't there.
Just had a reply from a supplier from whom I was trying to get a quote for an additional battery - he says exisiting batteries no longer available, and "new models" not in the country yet. I would assume the same would go for any updated inverters.
THALL I've got 6kwp tied to a single HY5, I loose anything over 5kw of generation as that is all the inverter can manage.
I wanted a lot of PV for winter and as the HY5 can handle up to 6.5kw figured it would be ok. A touch annoying to see figures above 5kw being generated already though.
Panels continue to get more efficient so the same size roof will produce more power, ironically as ASHP etc become the norm you'll need loads of PV to cover those winter heating loads ideally.
my 8.2 is in stock and i was debating with my supplier if i should pass it to someone else and wait for the 9.5 and they think it could be August before the 9.5's are in stock, going from when the 8.2 was first announced and when it was available and in stock.
so i will be taking the 8.2 and will now wait until next year to replace the ac3 with the 5 and add the second battery. they think the 9.5will be more expensive but a lower price per kwh
Any deliveries of existing batteries are for existing orders.
I was told on the phone by a GE techie I wouldn’t see a new battery anytime soon and when I said 6-9 months suggested it was unlikely. The inverter didn’t sound much better for new (spec not confirmed) ones when they were finally out.
Installers all said the same although they had heard 4 and 5kW max battery charge.
Question I have is around the 3.6 being continuous or a short term max?

Yes the Tesla costs a couple of grand more, but that included an external solar inverter.
It’s definitely a worthwhile improvement, but GE need to keep an eye on the Chinese competition at a very similar price.

GE is already Chinese kit anyway don't forget.
yandards Yeah you'll get a little clipping even at this time of the year on good days. But since its only likely going to be for the very peak of the very best days in the UK, you might well find that its not actually that much energy over the course of a year.
EG, you might generate more than 5kw peak on say 150 days of the year, but half of those days that might only be for 3 minutes so the actual lost energy isn't that much.
There is also the case of diminishing returns. We have 3 inverters, 4x 8.2 batteries and 18kw of solar panels, on a day like yesterday we still exported 15kw to the grid, partly because 2 batteries filled up and partly because 2 of the batts are only on one AC3, so it couldn't use the peaks of 6kw being fed from the panels. Now, we want to add another AC3 which would help there, plus an Eddi to feed the cylinder/GSHP buffer etc, but its like £1800 and it would actually only be needed for x fraction of the time that the first AC3 is needed. Similarly we could add more batteries but then every one you add is going to get used less than those that came before, unless your array is so large that you just fill it all the time.
In an ideal world where storage and panels are cheap, we all have 50kw of panels, batteries and perfectly insulated houses and GSHPs. Until then its a balancing act.
dbt85 agreed, I've run the sums and it just doesn't pay at current rates and the household consumption to add another battery and inverter for the odd days we use more even over the depths of winter.
Same with the peak generation, it's there and I am seeing regular peaks above 5kw but the reality is that it's only going to be a couple of kWhs per day at best.
I've got 6.1kw of PV at the moment although I suspect the low ambient temperature is helping with that.
We’re waiting on a 6.4kW east/west install, so it’s unlikely we will top 5kW from solar directly.
What’s more interesting to me is that we regularly go above 3kW for short bursts and 5kW is achieved with certain activities…
So the new inverter is definitely an improvement and it keeps below that 16A export limit too, but if the cost difference to more powerful systems isn’t huge then there may be a benefit to the other…
