Have a new install that has twice been discharged fully (down to the 4% buffer) but has only added 11.52 to 11.58kWh over night (which equates to 12kWh including the buffer already in the battery)

It was sold to me as 13.5kWh 100% discharge (the technical spec says so). Why wouldn't it be doing that? (The installer says it will sort itself out in a week ...not a satisfactory answer)

Had mine about 3 weeks and I am assuming you have the 608 firmware version.

Yes the battery seems to be missing 1-2kWh

You have spotted the main issue. Start with 100% charge, use X kWh, the battery then adds X-2 kWh as part of the next charge to 100% (what magic is this)

It will repeat this for a few days and then in the middle of the day it will drop from 50% to 5% for example in 60 mins when it realises it's unexpectedly empty.

Basically the battery does not seem to be able to correctly determine when it's at 100%.

Based on community member jellybaby when it gets really bad you loose about 4kWh (think I am getting there).

Apparently firmware team is looking at this. I'll watch this for a few more days to understand the behaviour and then go and then raise it formally as an issue (the not putting enough energy in to get to 100% is something I have only just spotted).

Hopefully this is 'new' product teething issues which gets sorted soon, because I could really do without the whole taking GivEnergy to court to get my money back for selling a product that's not fit for purpose and has been miss sold (13.5kWh capacity ?).

At least I now know why I struggled to find an installer who would even touch GivEnergy gear (I expressly got warned off by approved GivEnergy installers).

On a plus note, it's LFP and not NMC ie safer, Looks good, Apps and portal not the worst.

I'm not sure your theory is quite right. Have a look at my usage chart from yesterday below.

I started at 5% (following an unexplained step-down the previous evening), and then had a scheduled charge to 60% between 00.30 and 04.30. Charge then drifted down until around 10am, when I had another unexplained step-down to 4%. It recovered slightly (to 8%) before a discharge just before 14.00

Now here's the point - at 14.00 there was an Octopus Power-up and I charged for 2 hours at 6kW per hour. The charge went from 4% to 92%. This is about right for a 13.5kWh battery (88% of 13.5kWh is 11.9kWh).

But my battery says (on the Inverter page) that its capacity is 15.96 kWh, so that is odd thing #1.

Now look at 21.45 - yet another unexplained step-down, this time from 31% to 3% - 28% of charge - so either 4.5kWh or 3.8kWh depending on the capacity. This is just too much too quickly to be consistent with your theory - odd thing #2

I really don't know whether to send this thing back, as it is just so useless. Or hold on and hope it gets better.

I have been having endless problems myself, last night flat > 100% it put 9.2kwh into the battery and now im back at 97% currently the math works out that 97% is 8kwh

Starting to wonder if battery storage is worth all the hassle at the moment.

During my battery calibration it ended up putting over 16kwh into the battery.

Oooh you get the Octopus Power-Up's. Sadly not available in my area.

Reason for my thinking was based on following. Day after day kWh required to charge to 100% is less than kWh discharge from 100% (I have no solar) and then eventually the day occurs when this shortfall catches up ie battery gets unexpected low voltage correlating with low energy and slams your % remaining to 5% in double quick time

This should be fixable and seems to be a more consistent behaviour than prior to the 608 version where the numbers where everywhere for me

There's always some loss in transfer, either with charging or discharging.

So if you've got a 13.5kwh battery and are putting 12kwh charge into it... factoring in the 4% it keeps back... that would be about right. You can always ask them to recalibrate it again.

My 5.2kwh will typically charge about 4.7 to 4.9kwh in a day... on days when we've got loads of sun and I decided to use the washing machine, dishwasher or do a load of cooking... I can see the battery have 6kwh or so put through it as it discharges a little and recharges. But with days getting shorter and weather getting worse... I've only seen 104kwh of generation to home/battery/export so far this month. That's still covering about 40% of my use though with 2/3 of the month left to go.

We have a 5.3 kWh battery but our system design document says "Assumed usable capacity of electricity energy storage
device, which is used for self-consumption, kWh: 4.16kWh", which is slightly less than 80%. I don't think they ever use 100% of the capacity to get the required lifetime. I have heard it said that you should only charge your phone to 80% to preserve battery life. Phone batteries don't normally last anywhere near as long as this is expected to.

nophead the 5.2kWh battery only runs at 80% DOD so 4.16 is right. Unless you are a "special" EON customer where your 5.2 battery is forced to run over spec at100% DOD.

Sad, but also quite glad, as we at least temporarily seem to have dodged this bullet by being seduced by a cheaper PW2.

tomorrowman Yes it's screwy. They've calibrated it again and it's worse. Just 9.2kWh (and this is correct as the area under the curve is about 9kWh: 6kW rate for 90mins). So yes, we've lost over 4kWh already in a week!

It should have latest firmware as it was only installed last week and the installer updated firmware

buchanan101 I put 14kW into my battery each evening without issue, so looks like you have a fault somewhere. If you were putting 10kW in I might suggest a faulty battery pack ie 14 * 0.75 = 10.5kW, but you are a little low for that.

Pandorian I'm not the only one it seems... two others on here are getting 9.2kWh. It was 11.5kWh after first calibration - second calibration dropped it to 9.2kWh.

Is there a complaints email address, or does all go through support@ ?

At this point it seems to me that there are only a few options to try to ensure that the problems with the AIO are addressed, and all involve raising the issues outside of a Givenergy forum or support/complaint process.

I suggest that you make your issues known publicly - for example on Twitter/X, on Facebook, on Trustpilot and the other review sites.

At the very least this will hopefully stop others suffering the way we are, as new purchasers are put off. And at best it will raise the profile of our problems sufficiently high-up in the hierarchy of the company so that resources are diverted to address the failings of the product.

Im seeing the same issue, gets to between 30-40% then drops to 0, so this must be a software issue? Iv raised a case with GivEnergy, called supplier and see what I get, but yeah, it seems its more like a 10Kw battery rather than the 13.5Kw as advertised. Only been in a week and seen this happen twice already that im watching.

Believe it’s the same family of BMS in each of the 4 modules that’s in the AIO as that fitted to all the other Giv batteries. Code is believed to be based on the same as well therefore it’s not that much of a stretch to assume the SOC jumps have shared cause & also solution (up-to you how you judge how well it’s been going & how confident you feel in resolving VS how long it’s been going on for from the very long SOC jump thread)

What's weird is that certainly some AIO installs seem to have this sudden drop issue but then others (mine for example) just don't. Since install in July mine has run down empty, full charged, bounced up and down charging and discharging from 40-100%, everything really, and I've not once seen any kind of sudden drop or sudden climb in SOC value. The rate of SOC climb does seem to vary a bit when charging overnight, and sometimes it seems to need more charge to get to 100% than on other occasions from the same point, but no big drops or climbs. Which to me says yes there might be firmware issues but they can't be the sole cause of the sudden drops, there must be either hardware issues or install issues in those cases. But I'm certainly no expert in battery tech.

Reading my Octopus App, over the night, I pull 3Kw per 30mins while charging the battery, so that would be 12Kw in 2 hours, which would meet with the 6Kwh it charges. So maybe its a simple as an error with the total energy being used?
Edit: just had an email to say its a readings issue from Givenergy

I am having similar issues. The 13.5kWh battery only charges to 7kWh. I see that an engineer set the battery capacity to 52% before the calibration (52% of 15.5 = 7.02). This is shown in the audit trail in the inverters section of the portal (click on remote control on the AllIn One inverter).

I have deliberately drained the battery to 5% before the off peak electricity to see what I get, and yes, it's about 7 kWh (depending on what is running in the house). The battery reports it is 100% charged (can't be - but I think it is saying it is 100% charged to the now 7kWH limit). Interestingly the graph on the portal assumes that it is 100% charged to 13.5 kWh, so when I've used my 6.4kWh (allowing for 4/5% safety), the graph plummets from 60% to 5%.

So for me, the battery is not calibrated properly - does that make sense?

And the graph is not programmed properly as it does not take into account the 52%.

SeanS you are seeing the same behaviour as most, if not all, AIO owners. It’s frustrating that the software keeps reporting 100% when it clearly is not at 13,5kwh capacity. I suspect many owners have been blissfully unaware when we all have abundant solar around, we are all finding out now we want the full DOD . Still the silence goes on from GE, suggest you raise a ticket as well.

My battery capacity was set at 52 at commission also.

My system regularly steps down. But almost always from the high 20%'s to 4% (and as soon as it hits that level). So not consistent with your theory @SeanS

Just had this back from GE

The way we calculate the charge in the battery is by testing the upper and lower limits of the battery, setting 0% at the bottom end and 100% at the top end. Between this, we calculate the percentage from the voltage between these two limits.

Over time, on the current AIO battery firmware, this calculation can begin to drift and once the upper or lower limits are reached, the calculation will correct itself showing as the jumps and drops in the load.

This is a known issue and our firmware development team are currently working on a fix for this that should be coming in the next few weeks.

the 52 thing the 52AH of each pack in the stack & I suspect is correct, otherwise you'd have 3.4kWh usable if it was using that figure.

Daveb01 I'd say that those logs don't show it being SET to 52, they show the value being read back as 52. Note the "Read Successfully" vs "Written Successfully" elsewhere. The reads happen when values are inspected remotely; the writes when something is changed. My AIO has an entry "Read" of 52 for Battery Capacity on the install day; but it's definitely not limited to 52% capacity and that value has never been "Written" as anything else in the logs. So I'm not convinved that's what's causing this issue and that 52 might have some meaning not a "percentage of capacity to use" at all.

Clearly, @"Hoggy" is correct as all users are reporting 52. You have made an assumption that this is a % where no units were given.

In three years and 50,000 miles in a Model 3 I have NEVER seen the battery dropping or the charge being estimated with anything less than impressive accuracy. Didn't see it in the Merc hybrid that I had before that. Nor have I seen it in the gazillion devices that I have that rely on Li-ion batteries.
Family members and colleagues also have BEVs. Not a single one has ever reported anything like the SoC drops that are on display every day here.

In fact the only device that I have seen this behaviour in is in this Givenergy kit.

I am told it is a firmware issue. If it is the issue above, that is simply a measurement and display issue. It doesn't explain why my 13.5kWh battery goes from 4% to 100% with a 6-7kWh grid import, nor why I only pull 5-6.5kWh into the home before it is empty again.

(fortunately the AIO is not yet mine as I haven't signed it off, currently it belongs to GE or my installer)

Anyone have any ideas.

All an education, so all and any replies welcome.

If you’ve not paid for it and it’s not signed off I have a view of what I would do. It wouldn’t make the installer/GE happy, but I’d ask them to make it work as described and to capacity for an acceptance period of 6 weeks without fault or replace it with something that works.

Oh and the 6 weeks of working operation count time starts again each time there is a fault.

I am sorry but I have lost faith in GE to get this fixed at the moment, now I know it’s been going on with their other batteries not just the AIO for years. The AIO is on version 7 of the software and it has not been fixed. Even installers are advising customers to stay away from GE.

Every other battery I have owned has never had an issue with the correct information on % of charge, EV, iPhone, rechargeable batteries, dyson, DeWalt tools etc etc.

Be truthful with the information and do not think customers will not find out, e.g the AIO has 4 x 4 kWH batteries which = 16 kWh not 13.5 kWh. Say it is a 16 kWh AIO and say GE have reduced this by 20% to stop the battery failing so you will get 12.8 kWh usable.

There are a few things GE customers would like and GE are not listening. It’s not all about what GE think is right it’s sometimes what logic and customers would like with batteries they have paid £1000’s for.

To be able to set a default for the battery, that is always returned to once the timed setting has completed. E.g
I set my battery to Eco, Solar only charge, no discharge to the grid as default. Then I can set up a timed charge from 2-3, or a discharge from 4-6, then once this timed event has completed the battery goes back to the default until the next timed event.

Or during a timed charge once the battery gets to 100% go back to default, the reason for this is if I set up a charge from 2-5am say, and the battery gets to 100% at 3:30, the battery goes to idle and does not supply the house, and I draw from the grid until 5, this cost me money charging the battery from the grid and any period once the battery gets to 100% up until the end of the time period because no one knows when the battery will get to 100%.

The ability to set our own wattage import or export limit e.g 3000w, that is for the timed period only, and not forever. if it’s not changed back to 6000w on the AIO after the timed period it stays at 3000w.

There are a number of issues in these forums that I have not mentioned that are issues for your customers and GE need to look at as a priority and not just keep saying there are looking at it.

End of rant, I am sorry if I have offended anyone in this forum.

Think average joe might find this confusing, stating what you have available makes a lot better sense and makes things less complicated for the not tech savvy to understand.

I prefer a statement saying actual usage instead of "this is usage minus 10/15/20% DOD"

What I would like is a manual calibration option in remote control section for if things start playing up to see if that sorts anything out and you can do it on your own timeline to coincide with cheap period for leccie.

Don't get what you mean? I assume you are charging at cheap rate? I wouldn't want the battery to start supplying the house once it is full - I'd rather it came from the grid and held the battery SOC as it was specified.
And anyway, all of this is just UI options and nothing to do with the hardware. GE have admitted to their being some issues with some peoples installs - but its not many a couple of percent of the installed base. Internet is great, but it is a huge amplifier.

anglefire Todays flat > 100% was 1.3kwh, think that would warrant it but it would be preferable to start that off about 30m before flux period starts, but ive switched to flat 27p variable tariff since my AIO is just an expensive paperweight atm and not fit for use and GE E-Mail has been ghosting me.

Today I got to 100% from flat TWICE via solar only and its only 2PM and I only have 9x425w panels south facing lol

anglefire I used to do teh same, 02:15-04:45 on flux period so it just drew from grid on cheap rate, helps out incase there is a bad day as well so its a win win 😃

Sorry for the confusion. I will try and explain again what I am trying to achieve.

I use about 12 - 15 kWh a day before I got solar and a battery.

In the summer I charge the battery via Solar and let the battery supply the house when the sun goes down.

When the sun is still up past 6 pm, I will discharge 4-6 pm, let the battery charge from what’s left of solar and start again.

I do not Import anything from the grid and when I can export it pays for the daily standing charge as well.

Either side of this period (spring/Autumn) If needed I top the AIO up between 2-5am.

Winter I charge at night from grid, use battery during the day.

It may cost £1 or £1.50 or £2 a day to top up the battery if raining or very cloudy for a few days and no solar.

What my issue is if I set the battery to charge between 2-5 am, and it gets to 100% before 5, my house uses between 400 & 500 w per hour, so draws this from the grid while battery is idle until 5 am. Once or twice when I have not checked the battery level it has got to 100% within the 1st hour, so my house draws from the grid for 3 hours. If this happens every day for a week or so it adds up.

As I have calculated the AIO can last me the day, I would prefer an option to revert to my default option once the battery is full e.g to the home it will cost me less.

I hope I have explained it better for my situation, and would like it within the app.

To give GE credit I can see automation in the app, that’s not enabled yet, so they maybe thinking about it, default settings with automation separated.

Daveb01 it costs more to use energy that has been converted to DC and stored in a battery then converted back to AC than it does to just use it straight from the grid

It makes sense to use the grid during off peak rates and use what is in the battery during peak rates.

If you get to the end of the day and still have space in the battery, it’ll need less charge the next night to get back to full again.

You could of course change the end time for the off peak rate (which will cost you more in the long run) or set a lower percentage charge rather than 100% (but you might run out if you have a really heavy usage day for some reason).

Springbokboi If you full charge it start doing the math and see if you lose anything day to day and you will be able to be pretty precise with when it will die based on usage and charge/discharge amounts.

I am at less than 2kwh for full charge so im not even bothering to charge it anymore, there is literally no point.

SeanS 2 weeks ago GE carried out a firmware reversion remotely and re calibrated the battery. It has been working as expected since then. 12kWh plus each night from the grid to the battery, if the battery has been fully use during the day, and a corresponding kWh being used from the battery. Will post again before Xmas to update.

I have loaded Test 3 to all those on the trial. Pretty much everyone is getting good results with test 2, this latter version looks to address the over active self calibrate below 20%, where people saw a marked difference in behaviour

TheDragon (GivEnergy) any idea when this revised SW is likely to be formally released as this AIO is doing my head in deciding it's empty after delivering as little as 8kWh (I'm non solar so charge to full overnight on octopus intelligent at 7.5p per kWh). It's costing me money it shouldn't as the battery is theoretically sized to meet my needs.

If ETA unclear can I be added to trial please

I had this got to the point it was only topping up 7.5 kWh overnight, had GE recalibrate it and now topping up full again (for now) might be worth it if like me you took that firmware upgrade for the inverter as that didn't have a recalibration built in and think thats the reason (maybe)
