Anyone having issues with Octopus scheduler last few nights?

Hi folks,

Just curious to see if anyone else has had an issue where the Octopus R&D scheduler has failed to send commands during the early hours? The last couple of nights my inverter hasn't received instruction between 3am and 5am to charge, which means rhe batteries start taking the load from the house and I'm down at around 20 percent instead of 100 come 7am.

Haven't had any issues for months and it's just started to happen. I assume it's the scheduler as looking at rhe history of commands in the R&D app I can see it sending requests during the night but then a gap between these hours - even though I've set a schedule to charge from 2am to 6am with no optimisations.

Just curious if anyone else using the Octopus R&D has seen this. I've already emailed Octopus about it.

Cheers,

Sarge

lukesarge it all needs communication between Octo servers, GE servers and your inverter, anything stumbles slightly and it will completely fall over. And I don't see anything in Octo to get it to check that the command has been received and accepted, it is annoying but that's one of the reasons I stopped using it and moved to Home Assistant, although even that has failed to communicate once or twice.

Last night I set mine to charge from 02:00 to 05:00 and it only charged 02:00-03:30 for some reason. Not had a chance to look into it. Only just started using R&D again the last few nights after not needing for last 6 months so don't know if it is a new glitch or longer running issue.

Yes, I had a problem on Sun 15th. Set 5x explicit 30-min charge slots (1; 2.30; 3.30, 5 and 6am) and it didn't charge the final two slots for some reason. Inverter didn't receive commands to charge at 5am and 6am. The only command received was to stop charging at 5.30 but it didn't receive the command to start at 5am.

I also had an issue where I wanted to charge only at negative priced import rates on 14th Oct. I thought I'd get the scheduler to optimise that, although the lowest import rate you can set is less than or equal 0p (so would also charge at 0p rates too). However, that schedule totally failed to pick up ANY slots over the night so had an empty battery in the morning 😭

If you haven't already, you can check the inverter remote control logs to see which commands were received by the inverter and also check the schedule history in R&D labs (these show as "idle" if nothing sent).

As Cdent said; it needs the commands to be sent and received to work. Plus there's no validation to confirm the command has been received (and retry if not). Remember also that R&D is an alpha system so unfortunately not guaranteed to be stable.

That said - please send through issues to the agile octopus energy e-mail address (as highlighted on the web portal) so they can pick up these issues otherwise they don't know what's not working and get a chance to fix.

Thanks folks - fully understand the R&D is alpha but it's been working for me pretty flawlessly over the past 6 months but now that the sun isn't around as much I'm relying on the scheduler more to make sure batteries are taking the brunt of the load when the prices rise on OctoAgile.

I've not heard anything back from them as yet but will report back as and when I do.

Thanks again.

Lots of posts on the various GivEnergy Facebook groups over the past couple of days about the R&D Labs integration not working at all or as expected.

Similar situation for me. I have a schedule to charge at the cheapest six half hourly periods of the day on Agile but for a week or so only three periods a day have charged. I've emailed Octopus today and will let you know the response.

Looks like I might have posted about the same issue here:

Feels like it stopped working on about 14th October for me, but only nighttime charging events

The R&D labs scheduler has been malfunctioning for the last 5 days. Multiple slots were not charged and import always stopped at 01.30.

On facebook the answer came up to reset the schedules to start at 02.00 and everything seems to be OK.

Has been reported to octopus, who haven't responded.

Hi Folks, I’m still scheduling multiple jobs around the 2am breakpoint. Anyone know if the octopus scheduler issue has been resolved and I can drop back to scheduling just one job?

Go to Home Assistant
Your server on your network.
No need to worry about Octo servers sending the signal, GivEnergy servers receiving and/or passing on the signal and/or any internet vagaries.
