Random load spikes

We are away from home ATM, so the house is at base load but I got a spike of 1623W. There is nothing connected that could draw that much apart from our Bosch dishwasher that is in standby. I doubt that is the cause having repaired it myself because the heaters are switched by two relays, one in live and the other neutral and the relays are driven by two transistors, one in plus 12V and one in ground. So it is very unlikely unless the firmware decides to wake up and pulse the heater for some unknown reason.

Is it a real thing or does the Gen3 hybrid inverter get false readings?

Is this the first time it has happened or has it happened before and if so does it happen around the same time?

It probably didn't last long and it could happen more often than that as the system isn't live info of every second like the electricity meter is which is unfortunate, it just happened as it took a reading.

If you are curious you could leave an old device on with the GE app open for 10s updates to the info.

SteveCook oh yes, that could do it, could have taken a reading just as it kicked on, bad timing and all that.

I have a dumb energy monitor plugged into our fridge freezer to see how much it consumes (around 2kwh a day apparently) and have seen it kick up 1-2kwh as it shows peak kwh its reached.

There is a small freezer, which is the small ripples you can see on the load and the larger bumps are the central heating pump. The freezer only takes about 50W when on but perhaps it takes a big surge when it starts. Googling seems to say they do give a current surge and it does look like it corresponds to the start of an on period.

Seems like there should be some filtering rather than just samples every 5 minutes.

My fridge freezer usually uses when active 100-150w but when it kicks in it can peak to a couple kwh for a few seconds.

I used to work with Electric Motors and Generators, pumps etc. An induction motor such as those used in pumps and compressors will take approximately 6x the normal running current at startup. This will be momentary ( unless working against a heavy load).

Took me a while to figure it out - but I see the same thing once or twice a day and it's the compressor on the freezer kicking in. I think it is only a momentary peak and doesn't last very long
