Scheduled Discharge Not Working

I've read a number of posts on this subject, but neither me or a friend, who also has a GivEnergy Inverter/Battery system, can fathom how this works.

Using the Portal, I have set the Battery Discharge time to run from say 1pm until 2am the following day. Have also set the Eco setting to Disabled (as mentioned in another post). Once the Discharge Time is reached, basically the battery does not do a thing, not discharging (or charging from the Solar Panels).

btw - Scheduled charging from the Grid works fine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Steve B It seems to depend on the hardware/firmware revision. I did attempt to start a survey inviting people to describe how their systems behaved, but got no response.
What sort of system are you running, and what firmware revision ?

On firmware 450-451 that is the expected behaviour. With Eco off the house load is supplied from grid/solar not battery. At 1pm the inverter will switch to discharge mode, and solar generation will start being exported to grid rather than charging the battery. Solar generation at 2am is unlikely. 🙂

What are you trying to achieve regarding charging and discharging.
What tariff are you on.
Are you trying to get some peak export payments at some point of the day or are you just trying to minimise grid import.
Do you use any timed off peak import.

I have Gen1 Hy5.0 on Eco7 with 9.5 battery.
I have timed import 00:30-07:30 enabled.
I have Eco enabled.
During winter there is not enough sum for me to try and do any specific timed export, Eco7 does not have this, export is flat rate.
As spring comes any excess after battery is full will be exported at circa 15p on Eco7

I'm on an Octopus Flux Tariff which gives me cheaper energy from 02:00 to 05:00, Peak from 16:00 to 19:00 and Standard at other times. I have a 5Kw battery (wish I'd gone for larger). As you say, at this time of year there is not enough sunshine to charge my battery so I'm charging to 100% from the grid from 02:00 to 05:00. The battery then discharges through the day and is then generally fully discharged between 17:00 and 18:00. What I'm trying to do is delay the battery from discharging to say 09:00/10:00 so that I have enough in the battery to see me through the Peak Tariff period 16:00 to 19:00.

Steve B Simplest thing to do, for now, is probably extend the charging time to 9am or 10am - it won't import anything extra, since it will already be fully-charged by 5am, but has the effect of inhibiting discharge until the end of the charging time.
May want to change strategy later in the year as sunshine starts to increase.

I am not an expert on this,
When I was on Flux (Don't ask, smart meters did work, but don't now. About to see Ombudsman!), I put in a 12:00-15:00 standard rate top up to make sure battery was full for the 16:00-19:00 period., and then default back to Eco after.
If the battery is 50% full at 12:00, it will obviously only import 50% and if you fill the battery and don't use it all during the peak, it will just be used after.

Trouble is my Gen1 Hy5.0 only has a single charge slot (you need 02:00-05:00). I don't know what you have.
I tried Octo R&D labs scheduler which worked but not when I tried to add in forced export in summer. May be fixed now. https://smart-energy.octopushome.net/sign-in

I went to Home Assistant and it does everything I want and is my server on my network so I don't have any Octo and GivEnergy server issues or internet issues to worry about.

Another option.
Press ‘pause’ button in app whilst you have charge in the morning and press ‘play’ before peak rate. A pain to remember as I discovered.

I tried HA but don’t need another learning curve in my life so started Wonder Watt last week and it does all I need (multiple charge/discharge slots on my Gen 1, now!) along with moving from Flux to Agile I have halved my cost. Check out Octopus Compare App for your situation.
Will go back to Flux when the sunshines.

I would like to achieve exactly the same thing. As I see the problem, when using the portal, when you switch on a timed discharge, ECO mode is switched on too (rendering the discharge setting useless) and when you disbable the ECO setting, your timed discharge toggle is switched to disabled too.

In my view clearly a bug. As mentioned above the only basic way I can see us achieving the goal is to extend the charging window to something like 11am, suffer the hit on conversion from AC to DC to AC and essentially time shift the available battery window to later in the day

If I am wrong, please do let me know what I am missing, keen to get this resolved

Springbokboi If you're charging from AC overnight anyway, then extending the charging window does not result in additional conversion losses because it doesn't actually cause extra charging. Once it reaches the target SoC, it stops actively charging and merely holds the state (idles the battery) until the end of the charging time. If it does result in extra charging, you're probably doing it wrong sub-optimally.

If you're not charging overnight, then you could try a different approach: on some versions, on the remote-control part of the portal you can configure a pause: if you set pause to discharge-only, and configure a suitable time period, then the battery will hold charge for that time (but can still charge from solar).

On my system, it's actually relatively simple to understand the various discharge modes. Unfortunately, the user interfaces on both portal and app confuse more than assist. However, I think different versions operate differently. See
