Hi,

Decided to invest in an iboost to power the immersion heaters, my house is electricity only (no LPG) so looking at other ways to save pulling from the grid wherever possible, so this seemed a good investment.

Presently the immersion heaters are on an old economy 7 heating system, which will obviously be replaced with this unit.

I read here that the iboost was quicker to react than the inverter so “stealing” power from the battery when the battery should be charging.

Has this issue been overcome? I see that changing the cut in power to 150w has yealed some success

There are a number of thread in this, maybe I hadn’t get to the answer yet hence posting up a new thread.

Any comments on how to optimise the iboost so it doesn’t conflict with the battery would be greatly appreciated, I have 9.5kv GivEnergy battery installed in late February this year and the firmware is fully up to date.

I think that all you can do is set a high export value before it kicks in, but you'll always find there will be competition (conflict?) between battery and iBoost when there is a sudden fall in load or a sudden increase in PV.
My iBoost has been switched off since I started being paid for exports, but then I have oil heating and even at the peak prices it was cheaper to heat water with oil.

When i started in 2020 export was only 5p and so it was better to use the solar I Boost + to inject spare/excess power into my thermal store (heating and hot water).
Now on ECO 7 my day export is 15p and gas is cheaper than that even allowing some efficiency losses.
I boost + is off until gas price increases and/or export rate falls.
I am on Eco7 preconfigured meter as my smart meters are still dumb after 4 years,.
If I was on Flux the case to turn off the i boost + would be even clearer and to keep battery charged until 16:00 for peak rate export

Mine is set at 250W. It plays nicely with the batteries. You may hear it spinning up the fan especially if there's passing clouds.
However, as others have said, since Octopus started paying 15p per exported kWh it makes more sense to export excess.

It doesn’t look like there really is a financial case for getting an iBoost, Eddi or other solar diverter now when the export rates are so much better

Correct, the economics don't stack up.
However, economics aren't all....a diverter means less gas being burned to heat water.

I’m running mine because I’m avoiding buying any more oil until the summer (maybe) and cheaper prices (hoping) plus it feels greener
