Prevent battery charging at set times

Hi all,

Does anyone know if it's possible to control when the battery will charge from the PV array? Looking at my rates I'm seeing the beginning of a spike as the second string starts kicking in, just as the battery finishes charging and the inverter maxes out.

I'm wondering if it's possible to set the inverter to hold off charging the battery until, say, 1200 as I would see less clipping if I did so then, exporting the excess up to that point rather than shunting it into the battery. Looking at the Timed Charge option I don't think that quite does what I want either.

MRich I think all you can do is slow down how fast the battery charges. The timed charge is for charging from the grid.

THALL Yeah I figured as much. I might try setting a timed export for the period where I don't want it charging - that should prevent anything going into the battery as it will aim to discharge to the reserve, which it should be at fairly early in the morning.

Experimented with this yesterday and today - didn't pay off yesterday thanks to clouds, and I didn't do enough today to prevent clipping in the afternoon, but using the timed export does sort of allow this approach to work. Using a combination of a timed export and a battery reserve it would be entirely possible to hold the battery at a set capacity until a specific time, which is what I will try in the future.
Obviously the drawback is that if, like yesterday, the morning is very sunny but the afternoon is clouded, you don't get to fill the battery. On the other hand this approach will prevent clipping so far as the battery capacity and load allows, so it does improve the overall efficiency of the system on hot days.

Now for an API plugin that'll do the legwork automatically, in particular switching from timed export to eco automatically at a selected time 😄
