Automatic Firmware Update

I got home from holiday this afternoon and spotted a notification that the firmware on my inverter was updated 2 days ago. Is it usual for updates to be applied automatically?

It’s probably an update to the communications dongle.

It’s unusual for updates to be applied automatically, but perhaps not so much of a worry if it’s just the dongle and if it had sufficient testing before rollout! No complaints seen on here so far, so fingers crossed!

Inverter and battery updates usually kicked off via a customer request (either via web portal or via a support ticket) or sometimes by your installer if they are proactive.

Is there a way to block firmware updates? My system works fine so I don't want any changes to it. The dongle update trashed the portal export energy today figure.

TX200 - please excuse me if this is a stupid question but how do I know if I have a communications dongle? It's not on the list of stuff supplied by the installer and I had assumed that it was an option for my inverter (which perhaps I should have mentioned is Gen 3 3.6kW).

Monty a dongle is a USB stick which hangs out the bottom of the inverter and has a blue light on it.

On more modern systems, including yours, the inverters also have a wired ethernet option and a built in WiFi module.

I suspect a dongle update would include the in-built WiFi as well as a USB dongle. And perhaps the same dongle firmware gets applied to the ethernet too.

Just guessing on that.

Although I did have a successful dongle firmware update and don't have a USB dongle. Which leads me to believe the in-built WiFi is also considered a dongle. Perhaps a virtual dongle if you wish? 😀
