Conversion losses calculation

Hi,

Inverter Model - GIV-HY5.0
Inverter Firmware Version - D0.307-A0.307
Battery Firmware Version - 3015 (DC)

I've been trying to make sense of conversion losses:
On a typical day, the app shows (22-Apr-2024):

  • Solar --> Home (3.62 kWh)
  • Solar --> Battery (3.89 kWh)
  • Battery --> Home (3.15 kWh)

So, if I consider Battery --> Home, this is at 81% conversion rate, Is this right?

Or should I refer to different stats somewhere hidden in the dashboard or changes according to the different equipment turned on/off?

Vikas there'll be some energy lost in running the inverter as well, so the full discharge of the battery powers your home and the inverter, won't be massive but depends on how much power the battery is discharging at, higher discharge means the inverter needs to work harder so uses more power. I don't know if they're counted in the home statistic

Also, was the %age of the battery at the start and end the same? If not that'll affect the conversion rate too

Think you'll find that the power the inverter uses and the conversion from dc to ac is around the 10% mark. Likewise the battery , which is12v, looses around 10% with inverter running and converting back to ac, to either feed the home or export to the grid. Overall around 20% round-trip.
You might wonder where the losses go? That's the heat that comes out of the inverter!
That's why in any cost calculations those 20% losses should be taken into account, and one of the reasons tariffs like Octopus's Intelligent Flux, where import and export prices are the same, are actually 20% different from being the same.

If it means the percentage when it started discharging was 100%, then yes!

The average usage is around 300-400 Wh
