I very often find that even when the battery is full, that rather than use the battery, the load is matched by an import from the grid. Really frustrating!! I've recently updated inverter software and have also tried restarting the inverter to clear the issue. All to no avail. I have a 3kW inverter. It seems that the issue always occurs when a sudden high load like a kettle is applied. Not only or always this though.

Your battery obviously does discharge at some point because I can see it charging up overnight, then being held full all through the day, with as you say 3 spikes of load that appear to be met from grid not the battery.
Are you doing a forced discharge later on, does the battery ever pick up the house load?
It might be worth checking the inverter settings in the portal. Click the little circle next to each of the settings to retrieve the latest setting from the inverter into the portal. It could be that the battery reserve is stuck at 100% or the inverter isn’t properly in Eco mode.
Then try a reset to defaults to reset the inverter to the default Eco mode.

I do force export after 1700 down to 30% and then charge at 23.30 to 100% when rates low. This is of course deliberate to help balance the grid, maximise the potential of my array and reduce my costs.
As you advised – I have reset to defaults, then rest my forced charge and export parameters as before but it seems that you cannot force export and have Eco mode on. There is a warning to this effect on screen, when you select Eco. Not sure if or why this would have any bearing on load being taken from the grid when battery is full !!
The only other thing I can see in notifications is the record of several ‘BMS Communication fails’ each day between around 18.00 and 21.00, which are cleared around 6 minutes later on each occasion. Not sure what this means, nor why or whether this should have any bearing on load being often taken from the grid when battery is full.

KeithMersh1955RuthMary1971 what are the actual times you configure for forced charge and export?
You can have both eco and timed-export (unless you are on a gen-1 system). The UI gets some things wrong.
If you export to a certain % then it does tend to pause further battery discharge until the end time, meaning you'll run from grid until then.

BMS communications failure is the inverter saying it is failing to communicate to the battery management system and since they are wired directly together, shouldn’t normally happen.
It may point to a loose connection of the BMS plug into the bottom of the inverter, or something more serious. If it’s happening every day then suggest you give givenergy support a call.
Are these notifications only in the evening (around the time the battery is being force discharged) or are they at other times when your house load isn’t being picked up by the battery?
