Solar / Inverter issues

Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help or has come across a similar problem.
I recently had solar fitted with GIV-HY5.0 inverter and 9.5 kWh battery.

Each day I notice strange behaviour from the system on the monitor which seems to follow similar pattern.
During the day, the solar, inverter and battery all seems to work well until my battery reaches close to 100% charge.

After this, I notice the below on my dashboard where my solar generation becomes only 4W and no longer shows that I produce enough to export or cover my home usage.

and when I look through the logs, I notice the below readings where the solar generation dropped from 4.8 kWh to just 4w in less than 30 seconds.

No firmware update is due as all my settings are upto date as you can see below :

Has anyone else had the same problem and come across a fix, or know what could be causing this issue ?
I seem to find that the only way to correct this is to restart the inverter, but then the problem comes back again sometimes within a few mins, or within a couple of minutes.

Any help or advice appreciated.

Just to add, this is what is has gone back to after a recent reboot of the inverter :

Some suggestions:

• your inverter possibly has the wrong export limit set, e.g. zero, so as soon as you hit that export it throttles back the generation, and when you then apply house load it takes time to ramp it back up
• something wrong with the CT clamp, either installed the wrong way round or a cabling problem so the inverter isn't correctly sensing export and is stopping generation
• some other misconfiguration/fault on your inverter

If you have recently had this fitted you should get your installer back to check and resolve the problem. Its not working right !

SP I have had a similar issue in the past and the green switch between my inverter and battery had tripped.
I flipped the switch back and I was back in action. This coincided with a ' Low battery voltage' notification. Do check the 'Battery data' option. This shows voltage also. I contacted GE who pushed me to my installer. I have now had 2 of these switches replaced over the past 6 months.

Worth a try.

geoffreycoan Thanks for your reply and your suggestions.
I checked the setting for the export limit, and they seem to be fine.
For the incorrect sending of export, the inverter when working is managing to export without any issues - for example yesterday it managed to export 9kWh so would this not be impacted if the CT clamp or cabling has problems.
With this in mind, do you think the problem could then be misconfiguration/fault with the inverter?

I guess the issue I have could be different as if the swith you mention had tripped, would I not have to switch it back on for everything to work again ? I find that for my issue, I just have to restart the inverter via the APP or Cloud for everything to work again and don't need to do anything physically on the inverter / battery.

Check your grid voltage over time. If you are consistently experiencing high grid voltages over 253v the inverter/MPPT may limit/turn off solar production.

I checked based on what you said, and it seems like each time the String voltage goes over certain limit, that is when the solar generation seems to stop. At the moment, I have 8 panels on each string so could it be that there is too many panels per string ? See below as you when the string voltage went over circa 255v, that is when it stops.

@SP Check GRID voltage, not string voltage. I think when the inverter throttles for any reason the string voltages go high as there's no current draw - so you're seeing a symptom rather than a cause there.

rjp There doesn't seem to be anything strange in the grid voltage as you can below when the String Voltage spiked and caused the last issue.

SP updated data where you can see that it worked again in the middle at 13:30:18 and 13:30:28 when the string 1 and 2 was below 250v and then stops again. Am I missing something in the other readings ?

Hi SP, I'm new to GivE community myself (June '24) but reviewing your inverter (Giv-HY 5) datasheet the DC max input per string is 7.5kWp and max PV volts per string is 580 so you appear to be well inside the capability of the inverter. Your issue would not likely be in this regard. Sadly I am not yet learned enough to know where you should look so will keep an eye on how this pans out as it may help my understanding.

Yes really strange since the issue only seems to happen once the battery reaches close to 100% charge so hard to try and find a pattern.

Is the inverter ever using solar to power house load? Use the "energy graph" in the portal and select "generation". You'll see figures for "Solar to Home/Battery/Grid".

It sounds like a configuration problem, so I'd contact your installer or GE support

rjp - No the solar is working fine and powering the home and battery when working properly. You can see the stats for today below :

The issue seems to happen only once the battery reaches 100% or close to 100%, the solar generation and use shuts down.
